How to Survive Your Next Family Vacation

Vacations are supposed to be fun. They are supposed to be relaxing. They are supposed to be a unique cultural experience. But when you are traveling with a family they can be more than a little stressful,  and it can be difficult to please everyone.

If you’re tired of having vacations where no one gets along, the journey is a nightmare and there are more than a few tantrums along the way, try  Treehouse Holidays for a new and unique experience!

Here are some tips to help you survive your next family vacation.

Choose a destination that has it all

You might fancy a luxury vacation to the Bahamas with all of the sun, sea, and sand you can handle, but the kids might find it a bit boring, and they might want to go to Disneyland where they can go on all the big rides and keet their favorite cartoon characters but that could be exhausting for you.

So, if you want to increase your odds of finding family harmony, choose a destination that has some of the things you like – museums, art galleries, nice restaurants, lake tahoe hot air balloon – and some things the kids will love – water parks, kids clubs – so you can all have a turn at doing your preferred activity at least once.

Upgrade your accommodation

Airline travel not only saves you time, but it can also save money, if you’re car is a gas guzzler.

When you have kids, staying in a basic hotel or motel or ent if you are camping, can be miserable. You will all be tired after long days exploring, so it’s worth having a little luxury, whether that be a four-star hotel or one of these hybrid caravans with all mod-cons. You’ll all get a better night’s sleep which will mean less crankiness and freer tantrums all round.

Leave plenty of time

When you’re traveling with the family, things can and do go wrong. The toddler will need the toilet or your teens will wander off to look at something in a passing store and you will end up missing your shuttle, train, or even plane. Minimize the chances of this happening by leaving extra time for travel and you will be able to move at a leisurely pace instead of rushing around to catch that all-important flight in time. This could be made even easier by travelling via a private jet booked on a website like fast private jet, as you won’t be queuing or delayed by other passengers!

Do your own thing

It might be a family vacation, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t sneak off now and again. The kids can join the water schools at the resorts, or head to the hotel’s daycare if they are really young, and you can grab a drink and a bite to eat b the beach. You may love each other, but too much time together could turn the dream vacation into a nightmare.

Stick to a routine

If you have young kids, trying to stick to their usual routines, as far as possible, will lead to fewer tantrums. Sure, this might mean you have to head back to the hotel sooner than you would like, but order room service and enjoy dinner on the balcony – it will be just as good and you won’t have to worry about tantrums.

Have fun!

How to Create Painted Checkboard Floors with Heated Flooring as an Add-On

In some homes, the floor is the only thing that remains unchanged. It is the same colour, in the same place, no matter how many times you paint or remodel. However, in other homes, the flooring is new every week. One week it is hardwood, the next week it is laminated, then tile, and soon enough, the floor will be checkboard, where the pattern changes every day.

It is good to change the look of our floor as a home improvement. Also, when we have that sorted out, we can look to install a heated electric flooring system from floorheatingsystemsinc.com. This will have us feel a lot warmer when the heat is coming from beneath.

Checkboard Floors as an Idea

When you think about it, checkerboards are an interesting idea. Take the classic pattern, for example. It makes sense, and it is easy to follow: Each square is a different colour. That is a good start, but a checkerboard floor can be so much more than that.

Checkerboards are typically used as flooring in restaurants and shopping malls in public areas. They are also an integral part of the look of many children’s rooms worldwide, and the name comes from the checkerboard pattern painted on the floor. The pattern is classic for kids’ rooms, but there is more to checkboard floors than just that.

A checkboard floor is a term for a flooring method in which all the planks have the same thickness but have different widths. This can be accomplished in several ways. One trendy way is to have a concrete slab with thin vertical checkerboard-like cuts, where each plank is a concrete slab. The pattern of the flooring is created by using a series of small squares that are high enough to prevent people from walking in the grooves of the checkerboard pattern.

The checkerboard pattern does several things for the rooms in which it is used, including helping to hold the floor in place, providing a visual barrier to the floor above and below, and minimizing the noise from tile floors below. In addition, checkerboarding helps to keep the moisture in the flooring and have the flooring last longer, as well as being a low-maintenance flooring option.

How to Make Checkboard Floors

If you are trying to make a checkboard floor for your home, you are going to need to know how to paint, so here is a step-by-step guide on how to paint checkboard floors:

First step: First off, we should all start by prepping. You should make sure to vacuum and wash your floor thoroughly and with efficiency.

Second step: When you have properly prepped your floor, we move on to sanding and/or de-glossing. For many people, using a de-glosser is preferred. If you ask around, many will probably say that sanding is such challenging work and can be messy, but if you want to try sanding, it is also perfectly fine. This is a crucial step because you will get better adhesion.

Third step: You can start adding a black gel stain. Make sure that you brush on three layers so that you will be reassured that the black pops out; with this, we recommend that you use a 5” brush instead of a roller. Why? Because with a brush, you will be able to work the stains into the grooves.

Sure, most of the time, people start with the light colours first, but when it comes to painting checkerboards, you should beware of stain bleeding through. After you are done with coating with the black gel stain, wait for one day to let the floor cure before you go forward with the white gel stain.

Fourth step: You will need to choose where the starting point will be. When you are doing this, always remember to use a peel and stick tile as a template and bring along painters’ tape with you to help with marking off the floor.

Fifth step: Lastly, with the help of the template, it is time to fill in all the white squares. Pretty simple last step: during this last step, we recommend that you use a 12”x12” peel and stick tile. You will need to tape one square at a time and then apply a white gel stain after removing the tape. Using gel stains is much better since they only bleed a little.

Tip when cleaning: Always remember that gel stain is oil-based, most of it. We recommend using old paintbrushes if you do not want to go through the hassle of cleaning little messes with mineral spirits.

When you are in between coats, wrap your brushes in a plastic bag and then store them in your refrigerator.

Heated Floors

Electric heated flooring is a way of producing radiant heat that will keep you warm from the floor up. It is energy-efficient, does not exacerbate allergies because it does not work in a way that blows out particles, and is cheap to install because you can do it yourself. It produces no noise to annoy you and will be minimal maintenance to make it even more cost-effective a home improvement. In terms of the pleasure it provides, it is a heating system that means that the underfoot warmth will be consistent wherever you are within a room.

It is comforting to know that we can create a floor for ourselves that looks good and then heat it to feel good for another reason.

10 Garden Tips For Beginners

If you are a new home owner with no gardening experience, caring for your yard and taking care of a garden can be a bit intimidating.  Lawn care professionals at Gecko Green can assist you in general maintenance and care of your yard.  You should also do some research to help yourself become a good do-it-yourselfer.  Today I am sharing a few tips and things you should consider to get your garden started.

PLAN AHEAD

Whether you are building a new flower bed or growing a vegetable garden you will want to plan ahead.

  1. Consider Annuals vs Perennials.  When starting a flower garden, the biggest decision you can make is whether to plant annuals (plants that will die after the first year) or perennials (plants that come back year after year).  If you are looking for a perennial that requires very little maintenance, I recommend azaleas.  We have encore azaleas in our yard; they bloom three times a year, and they only require a little trimming a couple of times a year.
  2. Plants vs. Bulbs and Seeds. Next you should consider whether you want to start from scratch with seeds or bulbs or whether you just want to purchase some plants at the home improvement store and simply transplant them.  Plants will require less work, and they may be your only option if you are getting started late in the growing season.  But seeds and bulbs cost less, so if you are on a budget, they may be the better option.
  3. Consider Your Location.  You should also do research to find out what plants work best in your geographical area.  Consider the growing seasons.  Lilies generally bloom in the early to late spring, whiles daisies and sunflowers bloom in the late summer to early fall.
  4. Consider the sun.  Some plants work better in partial sun and some do better in full sun.  If you place a plant that requires full sun in a shady area the plant will die or, at the very least, not grow very well.  So you should always take note of how much sun the various areas of your yard get, and plant flowers that will grow well in those areas.
  5. Consider the geography / layout of your yard. To get your garden to grow properly and look great, you also need to have certain types of plants in certain places.  Some plants work better in pots or boxes up on your porch,  while other plants work well on the borders of a flower bed.  As you consider this, you’ll also want to think about how tall the plants will get, as that can make a big difference in how your flower garden looks.
  6. Consider spacing. You should take note of how much space a plant will require to grow.  Most seed/bulb packages should tell you how far apart to plant your seeds, so they can grow properly.  If you’re growing a vegetable garden you should also make sure that you plant straight rows.  Garden stakes and a roll of twine can help you to create straight rows.

MAINTENANCE

7. Deal with Weeds. Whether your dealing with an existing flower bed, planting a vegetable garden, or beautifying your lawn with new flowerbeds and landscaping, it is important to perform yard maintenance in late winter or early spring.  There are a few ways to control weeds in your flower bed.  You can pull the weeds, use weed killer from the store, or hire a specialist in flower bed weed control services.  They can come out and give your flower beds and yard spray treatment to kill and prevent weeds.

8. Aerate the soil.  Before attempting to plant anything, you should aerate the soil.  You made need to purchase or rent a tiller, but in some cases you could just use a rake.  If you’re building a flower bed, you may be able to skip this step and just purchase bags of good top soil and go from there.

9. Fertilize.  After planting, you should fertilize your garden.  As you’re shopping for fertilizers be sure to read the labels so that you can get the right fertilizers for your plants.  Then read the labels and use as directed so that you do not over-fertilize. You should also consider plant food for your flowers.

10.  Prune and Transplant.  After you get a flower garden started, you will need to perform routine maintenance once or twice a year.  Start with pruning your trees and shrubs.  And you will want to separate out and transplant some of your flowers as they multiply.

There’s a lot to consider when growing a garden, but with a little research and consideration, you can have a great garden growing in no time!  I hope the tips and ideas I’ve laid out here will help you as you start your gardening journey!

7 types of food for students that can improve brain activity

As a student, it is necessary that you try to understand and memorize tons of new information. But how is that achievable? Having mental health is very important. It boosts academic performance and helps you achieve your academic goals.

Overall healthy diets are important for proper brain functioning but there are certain foods that may be especially vital for this role. In this article, Peachy essay has listed these foods for you. Let’s have a look!

1. Fish

When it comes to brain health, omega-3s play a very important role. They are essential fats concentrated in fatty fish. They are also good sources of nutrients like selenium and B12 which promote brain health.

Several studies have linked intake fish to excellent brain functioning. For instance, there is one study that found out that 76 Japanese adults linked higher fish intake with better memory performance and improved brain health. Another study was carried out on 17000 schoolchildren and it was discovered that consuming 8 grams of fish daily boosts their grades in school.

However, the study on about schoolchildren showed that high consumption of fish reduces the association and was said to be high intake of harmful pollutants like mercury present in seafood.

Additionally, several studies associated better mental health with fish intake. It is attributed to the concentration of essential nutrients, which include omega 3 fats in fish.

2. Vegetables

Vegetable consumption does relatively well for excellent brain functioning and overall health promotion.

Green, orange and red vegetables such as pepper, broccoli, and carrots have many important plant compounds such as carotenoid pigments that are known to improve mental health. Carotenoids such as zeaxanthin and lutein always accumulate in the retina, usually called macular pigment optical density (MPOD).

Vegetables rich in lutein and zeaxanthin include spinach, parsley, kales, leek, peas, basil, broccoli, carrots, lettuce, and red and green peppers. Also on the list are eggs.

Meals rich in carotenoids include topping large spinach and herb salad with sliced carrots, chopped red pepper, and boiled eggs. Add vinegar and olive oil for healthy fats and extra proteins.

A study was conducted on 15 children aged between 7 and 13 years and the study showed that MPOD was related to intellectual ability and brain functioning.

A separate study of 56 children aged between 8 and 9 years showed that MPOD was associated with great academic performance. Low MPOD is associated with low mental performance. A study about 4453 adults selected showed that lower MPOD was linked to poor mental health tests performance, slower reaction time, and poorer memory.

3. Eggs

Eggs are a natural multivitamin because they contain several nutrients. They are rich in nutrients that are good for the functioning of the brain i.e. selenium, choline, and vitamin B12. Selenium is important for motor performance, cognition, memory, and coordination. Choline is best for the growth of the brain and production of neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is needed for proper functioning of muscles and memory storage. Vitamin B12 is vital in neurological health hence low levels of vitamin B12 impairs proper functioning of the brain.

Eggs also contain lutein, which is a carotenoid pigment which improves both mental and visual functioning. However, you need to eat the whole egg, both the white parts and the yolks so as to get all the possible brain-function promoting benefits.

A study carried out in 19 kids and adults indicated that eating yolks was linked with higher short-term learning, attention, and memory scores compared to egg whites. However, the study was funded by Egg Nutrition Centre hence might have influenced this study.

4. Nuts

Nuts are full of nutrients that are excellent for brain health including zinc and vitamin E. Due to their portability nature, they make good snacks for students.

They contain fiber, proteins, and fats hence they keep you on toes and alert during lessons. For instance, adding walnuts to a diet leads to a significant improvement in understanding verbal information compared to a placebo.

5. Cocoa products and dark chocolate

Cocoa has high contents of flavonoid compared to any other foods. Cocoa products like chocolate therefore contribute significantly to intake of diets rich in flavonoids. Consuming these cocoa products that are rich in flavonoids favors brain health.

Research shows that drinking beverages high in flavonoids per serving daily increases and betters ones mental health compared to those who take beverages low in flavonoids. Those who take drinks rich in flavonoids have high insulin sensitivity, which goes hand in hand with brain functioning. Insulin is a hormone that helps in transportation of sugar from blood to cells, where it is used for energy.

Consuming cocoa products reduces mental fatigue, increases memory and reaction time to tasks, and surges the flow of blood to the brain.

An interesting fact is that flavonoids are able to cross the blood-brain barrier, a membrane that is semi-permeable and whose function is to protect the brain, hence acts directly on parts of the brain that control attention and memory.

6. Coffee

Coffee is widely known as a concentration aid. In order to stay awake and focused, many students love taking coffee. Coffee contains caffeine which blocks adenosine that is known to make people feel sleepy.

Apart from alertness, coffee also increases brain functioning capacity in order to process information. This is because caffeine increases brain entropy, which is a difficult and variable brain activity. The higher the levels of entropy, the more the brain can process information.

Coffee is also a source of antioxidants that support the health of the brain as one grows older.

Coffee consumption is linked with reduced risks of stroke, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

However, you should note that high consumption of caffeine can terribly affect your sleep and sleep patterns hence it is not recommended.

Soy products

Soy products are rich in polyphenols, which are linked with a reduced risk of dementia and high cognitive abilities in normal aging processes. These polyphenols include isoflavones (genistein and daidzein) which act as antioxidants, offering many health benefits.

Conclusion

For students, having a healthy diet frequently is necessary when studying and doing exams. Although an overall healthy lifestyle and diet are important, several studies show that there are certain foods that boost mental health hence highly recommended for students. The above-listed foods will be of great help if you are looking to boost your mental health and overall health.

7 Baby Bath Must-Have Essentials for Your Newborn

Your baby will be ready for their first bath after their umbilical cord has fallen off. For the boys, if you choose to have them circumcised at birth, it would be best to wait till the circumcision site has fully healed. Ideally, bath time is closely followed by a nap, so making this process as soothing and relaxing as possible is essential. You don’t have to wash your young one every day as thrice every week will suffice. Here are a few must-haves during bath time for your newborn.

Cotton washcloth

It is essential to clean inside all the folds and rolls on your baby’s skin when washing your baby. A soft, cotton washcloth will help you scrub your baby down without hurting them. You could use whatever you have around the house, provided pure cotton.

Baby bathtub

From the time your baby is a newborn up until they can use the shower, you will need to get a baby bathtub. This tub shouldn’t be flat and should be at an angle with a non-slip surface and little safety posts to keep your baby from slipping under the water and possibly drowning. You must never leave a baby in a bathtub unattended.

Baby shampoo

You might find that a bit of soap will find its way into your baby’s eyes while you wash their head. To prevent your newborn’s eyes from becoming irritated or watery, we recommend using tear free baby shampoo. These shampoos balance the natural moisture of your young one’s hair and contain no synthetic fragrances.

Soft hairbrush

Newborn babies are born with scaly patches on their scalp, known as cradle caps. You don’t have to worry if your baby has a cradle cap as it is regular. To get rid of it, use a baby hairbrush with soft bristles every day as you shampoo their head until the scalp is clear.

nscented moisturizer

You must restore moisture to your newborn’s skin after they are done taking a bath. Though baby shampoos are mild and gentle on their skin, you will still need to apply a moisturizer to prevent dry and flaky skin. Ensure that the moisturizer you buy is unscented to avoid irritating their skin or causing allergies.

Bath toys

Not all babies enjoy getting wet and will throw a massive tantrum when you put them in their tub. An effective way to lure them in for a bath is to use bath toys. Opt for toys with bright colors and exciting shapes to stimulate their senses and make them look forward to taking a bath. Quite a few of these bath toys are recommended by early childhood specialists, as these toys encourage tactile discovery, hand-eye coordination, and imaginative play—all while keeping your little ones happily engaged.

Hooded towel

While a regular towel is good enough, a hooded towel will keep their tiny heads warm after you have gotten them out of their tub. Ensure you get a hooded towel that is perfectly sized for their height so that every inch of their bodies is covered. It would be best to buy one that is pure cotton.

Wrapping Up

Ensure you start with wiping your young one’s face before you proceed to wash their body. Please don’t forget to clean their ears with a damp washcloth and dry in between their toes. Dress them up in warm and comfortable clothes and rock them to sleep.

The Top Benefits of Plantation Shutters for Your Home

If you’re interested in new window furnishings, plantation shutters may not be the first thing that comes to mind. Curtains and blinds are much more common, but plantation shutters provide a classic look that offers both aesthetic and practical benefits. If you are interested in plantation shutters, you can find several options at DoorsPlus. Below, you can learn about the specific benefits offered by plantation shutters for your home.

Versatility

Unlike traditional curtains, shutters can be customized to fit virtually any window space in your home. From huge picture windows to smaller crescents, sharp angles, circular designs, and more, plantation shutters work with them all.

Thanks to the ability they have to be customized, they fit more precisely than off-the-shelf options. Shutters also help you save space because you don’t have to worry about hanging bulkier curtains.

Style and Aesthetic Appeal

Plantation shutters are a timeless, elegant, and stylish addition to your home. When installed properly, these shutters will appear tasteful, stately, and complement virtually any interior décor. With plantation shutters, you also don’t have to worry about buying curtains for your home or any other location they are installed.

Temperature Control

Shutters for windows in Tring (and elsewhere more relevant) also provide a great solution when it comes to insulating your home. They add ventilation during the summer while keeping the sun’s heat at bay while blocking cold drafts in the winter.

Cost Savings

Plantation shutters offer an additional layer of insulation to your home. This extra insulation will help you save money because of this. It will also result in a more energy-efficient home.

Sound Insulation

Along with heating and cooling benefits, plantation shutters also provide a sound buffer. They will reduce the amount of sound you hear from the outside world. If you live near a busy street or another noisy area, plantation shutters are a great addition to your home.

Ambiance

Like blinds, installing plantation shutters is ideal for controlling the ambient light coming into a room or your home. However, unlike blinds, plantation shutters can be divided into different sections, each with its own louvers, which provide more control. They also allow you to make adjustments to give you natural light and eliminate screen glare during the day.

Durability

Unlike other window treatments, plantation shutters are designed to last. Curtains can discolor, tear, fray, and blinds become fragile as time passes. However, the sturdiness of plantation shutters means they will last for several years. All this is possible thanks to the high standard of design.

Privacy

It’s possible to adjust the position of your internal window shutters at any time. This allows you to choose if you have more visibility or increased privacy.

Easy to Use

Unlike impractically tall or heavy curtains, there’s no awkwardness involved when using plantation shutters. They also help you avoid the “hoisting” action required to open traditional blinds. The absence of loose strings and ties helps you avoid tangling mishaps and other damage to the window treatment, as well.

Are Plantation Shutters Right for Your Home? While plantation shutters may not be the right option for every home, they provide an array of benefits you may find appealing. Be sure to purchase the shutters from a reputable buyer if you choose this window treatment option.

The use of medication is to help manage withdrawal symptoms and prevent relapse. Alongside medication, you can also undergo behavioural counselling as an individual, join a support or family group to help you cope and develop healthier coping skills. The final is to do a long-term follow-up to monitor your progress, prevent relapse and stay sober.

 Choose between treatments

You can choose between residential and outpatient treatment, sober living communities which follow residential treatment or day treatment. But, if you don’t want your parents finding out, the outpatient or day treatment might be the best option since it can be scheduled around work or school. Important Safety Tips for Learning How to Ride a Bike

It’s as easy as riding a bike, well, not quite as there are plenty of possible dangers for new riders.

This is why we’ve prioritized bicycle safety to provide a few bike safety rules when you’re out on the road.

Bike safety has become less of a priority over recent years with more people paying no attention to the safety rules of the road.

Here we’ll be taking a look at some of the most important safety tips when you’re learning to ride a bike.

This includes choosing the proper bike for your child, understanding the road rules, and so on.

Pick a Suitable Practice Space

The last thing you want is for your children to learn to ride a bike surrounded by other people. Not only can this make it difficult to keep track of them, but it can also stress them out and increase the risk of falling off their bike.

Suitable practice spaces can include your backyard or suburban street. The local park is also a good idea, especially if they can ride on the grass, which will soften the blow if they fall off. However, even these places could be dangerous if they get too busy. Even if you take measures to avoid injury for your child, accidents can happen. Because of this, it’s worth having contacts like Dennis Hernandez who can help you and your child find appropriate compensation should a collision or accident occur while your child is learning to ride a bike.

Choosing a Suitable Bicycle for Your Child

A bike is no longer just a bike as there are plenty of classes such as mountain bikes, BMX’s, high-performance track bikes, cruisers, and so on.

Using bikes with optimum body height is important for safe cycling.

A large bike in the hands of a toddler can be dangerous as they won’t have any control of it on top of being inexperienced bike riders.

Consider a bike with training wheels if your child wants to learn on their own.

Avoid buying bicycles or helmets that are too big for children who want a chance to ‘get in’. Stand your child with their feet on a peddles.

For a lightweight or medium bicycle, there will be a gap between the child’s chest and his crossbar. For BMX/ Mountain Bikes there should be a minimum of 5cm between the child’s crotch and bicycle stoop.

It’s usually best to stick to children’s bikes while they’re smaller. Choosing a bicycle helmet is easier as it’s a matter of trying it on.

The Rules of the Road

Learning to be safe early is crucial for cycling safety. If an inexperienced rider doesn’t understand how to read and speak with hand signals, it should be taught immediately.

This is a simple language that serves to inform drivers about bicycle travel. Hand signals include, left turn – left arm out straight, right turn – left hand bent up at the elbow, right hand out straight – stopping.

Make an honest judgement to decide if you want to go riding on the roads with your kid.

You should avoid riding down one-way streets that have oncoming traffic. This could spell disaster and it’s generally not a very clever thing to do.

Instead, follow the flow of traffic while maintaining a safe distance from vehicles.

Tips for bicycle safety

Ensure the bicycle is a good fit for the child as this will make it easier for them to learn and grow confident at controlling it.

A bike that’s too big increases the likelihood of sustaining an injury. A basic rule of thumb to ensure that it’s the right size is that the child’s feet should touch the ground while sitting in position.

The bike should be suitable for a child.

Avoid buying a child’s bike that has a complex set of gears or anything alike, it also doesn’t need to be expensive as it would likely take some damage during a fall.

For example gearing or shifting could be difficult for kids. Start your children at the fastest rate then work up. Keep bicycles clean and perform frequent inspections.

Inspections include checking tire pressure, damage to the bike, the brakes work, ensuring that the bike chain is well-lubricated and that the bicycle seat is secure.

Another important safety tip to consider is the attire you or your child is wearing when riding a bike.

Lose flowing fabric from trousers or dresses can easily be caught in the chain and this could result in an injury.

There are brands that offer active kids wear and this could be a good investment if you’re looking to maximize child safety.

Why is Bicycle Safety Important for Children?

Youngsters love riding bikes often when they’re new to them, this is especially true when it’s the bike that they’ve wanted as they would want to show it off to their friends.

This new skill provides them with a chance to explore which is good, but it can be incredibly dangerous especially if you live near a wooded area.

In the United States, about one million children are injured by bicycle accidents each day.

To ensure safety when riding bikes it must be taught to children from an early age.

Riding bikes together can be frightening. Knowing these safety guidelines as a child will allow them to become confident cyclists.

Bike riding is a great pastime and it’s a wonderful way for the family to get some regular exercise.
