Matthews 1812 House Cookie Review

I always look forward to a food review, especially when it is for something sweet or from a family owned business. Today I have both!  The people at Matthew’s 1812 House sent me a fabulous assortment of their homemade cookies, and my son and I have been sampling them.

I was immediately impressed with the cookie sampler. It had a variety of great gourmet flavors, as I would expect. [Read more…]

Homegating with Skittles

My family is so excited about football season being back again! How about you?  Each week of football season, we watch many games, but our favorite thing to watch is college football on Saturdays, and for this, we always like to have a lot of food and snacks on hand!  With football season starting in September and going through and past the New Year, I find it’s important to mix things up and come up with great menu items each week.  For example, we may have pizza and wings one week, and the following week we may have pulled pork sandwiches or hamburgers and hot dog.

But for me, football food doesn’t always have to be about the savory; it can also be about the sweet.  For the sweet, I like everything from fruit and cream cheese dip to cupcakes and cookies, to candy!  For the first Saturday of college football, we had an array of delicious foods to serve, including one of my favorite candies, Skittles®.  Today I’m going to show you some ideas for homegating with Skittles.  I’ll show you how I added Skittles to our party menu, and I’m going to show you how you can use Skittles to bring a little fun to the party! Time out for Mom with OREO Thins

“Okay! Time out!”  As chaos began to ensue in the middle of what was an ordinary day just five minutes ago, have you ever found yourself yelling this very phrase to your kids?”  Or have you, perhaps, ever put your child in a place known as “time out” when they did something wrong.  If you can say yes to either of these questions, then you know all too well how stressful being a parent can be.

And this chaotic scene is just one moment in your day.  There are also other activities to look forward to.  They range from cooking and cleaning to carpooling, and from going to your job or working your home based business. While this is all part of being an adult and a parent, it seems almost impossible that you wouldn’t feel a little bit of stress and pressure, trying to tackle this list each day. [Read more…]

Peanut Butter Cookies

The holiday baking season has officially begun at my house!  I love baking everything from cakes and pies to cookies and candies, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of sharing these treats with others.  But over the years, I’ve found that more and more people in my family have diets that require them to lower their sugar intake, which means they can’t partake in all the holiday goodies.  And still others are skipping out on the dessert, because they don’t want to put on “the extra pounds.”

Since I can’t eat all the desserts all by myself,  I’ve decided to try a few recipes with SPLENDA®.

Game Day Oreo BallsWhen the holiday season is in the air, I can hardly wait to make sweet treats like OREO Cookie Balls!  But why should these yummy treats only be made around the holidays?  I see no reason why OREO Cookie Balls shouldn’t be on our party menus year round.  Do you?

There are a number of ways you can transform OREO Balls to fit any holiday or occasion.  Last weekend I made a batch for game day.  In the past I’ve seen a lot of people mold their balls in to football shapes, and those always look so cute.  But for my recipe, I went in a slightly different direction.  I just happen to have this cute little snack stadium.  In the past I’ve used it to hold cupcakes, but I’ve been dying to use it to display homemade candies.

So I dressed my OREO Cookie Balls out with X’s and O’s, and they took the field!  Haha!  I even made a few striped ones! (Because every game needs to officials!) [Read more…]
