Homemade Alfredo Sauce

One of my favorite things to eat is Alfredo Pasta!  When we lived in South Alabama there was a locally owned place called Pintoli’s that had the best!  And now we frequent a place called Roman Rooster, and their pasta could easily rival our old place. (And not to mention, their pizza is the best I’ve ever had! But I digress…)
But when I want to cook pasta at home, I use the alfredo sauce recipe that I’m sharing with you today.  I found this recipe nearly a year ago over at Amy’s Finer Things. This goes great with all kinds of pasta and meat.  We usually do Chicken Fettucini Alfredo, but over the weekend I served the sauce with egg noodles and tiny shrimp.  It was excellent!

Recipe for Homemade Alfredo Sauce:
Ingredients:
 1/2 c. butter (1 stick)
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
 2 tsp. garlic powder
 2 cups Half and Half
6 oz. grated Parmesan cheese (shredded, not powder)
 pepper to taste
basil and/or parmesan for serving (optional)
Directions:  Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add cream cheese and garlic powder. Stir together until smooth.  Add half and half, cheese, and pepper. Stir until combined and smooth. If the sauce is thicker than you like, thin with a little milk. Serve over your favorite pasta, and season as desired.

Crafts Made With Love

I realized it’s been a while since I rounded up some craft ideas to share, so I went over to BHG to take a look around. As usual I was very excited about what I found. Here are just a few Valentine Crafts that will brighten up your home and help you say I love you.
Here’s a cute and very simple idea. Have your children write the reasons they love someone, and put them all together with a cute tag to make this I Love You Jar.

Everyone gets chocolate at Valentine’s Day, but how about giving some Candy Bars with a twist? This craft combines your regular everday candy bar with paper crafting fun!

This work of art is made with chipboard. I love all the colors and patterns that have been brought together here. Just imagine making your own for Valentine’s Day or doing a similar project to coordinate with your home decor.

If you’re tired of giving flowers that just die a few days later, try this flower craft made with buttons and wire.

As someone who loves pictures, I’d love to try this Heart Picture Frame idea. All it takes is a little paint, some wooden hearts, and a little wire. Very cute! And just imagine all the other embellishments that you could use for projects like this!

Here’s something for all of our scrapbooking friends. This Scrapbook Wall Art measures 4 feet by 4 feet. I’ve heard of using your scrapbooking materials to create personalized wall art, but I’ve never seen it done quite like this. Very impressive!

New: I Was Featured Button!

Photobucket

After seeing so many sites with “I Was Featured” buttons, I finally decided to put up one of my own. Feel free to grab one if you’ve ever been featured for Sweet Thursday, Holly Bloggy Christmas Bash, or one of my other posts.

And as always, I welcome you to grab the “regular” Simply Sweet home button, as well as my shop button and the Sweet Thursday button. To show my appreciation to you for helping me advertise my blog, everyone who has my button gets extra entries in all of my blog giveaways.

Also, if you’d like to do a button exchange, I’m willing to do a few of these at this time. Just send me an email or leave a comment.

Work At Home Wednesday: Valentine Gift Baskets

It’s amazing to see how a few small items can be packaged together to create something wonderful. Homemade Gift Baskets are the perfect gift idea for those of you who want to buy something nice from a retail store and still maintain a personalized and thoughtful touch. And the best thing about them is that they are easy to make regardless of your crafting skills and they can be made even on the smallest budget. Today I’ll be sharing some baskets I put together and listing some things you can put in your baskets, along with some tips.

What You Need:
Baskets
Stuffing – tissue paper and paper/foil shreds or “grass”
Ribbons/bows (optional)
Cellophane (optional)
Gift Tag (optional)
Little Items to put in the baskets

Items to Put In Baskets:
Candy
Stuffed animals/Toys
Themed pens/pencils
Notepads
Lotions/Perfumes/Soaps
Candles
Jewelry
Baked Items
Coffee cups
Books/magazines
Puzzle Books
Cute Socks or Slippers
Picture Frames
Photo Album
Glass figurines & collectibles
Hobby stuff
Specialty coffees or teas
Homemade items

Places to find Inexpensive Items: If you’re on a budget there are a lot of places to get your supplies for fairly cheap.

The Dollar Tree is a great place to get cheap baskets, your basket “stuffing,” and the gift items to put in your basket.

Hobby Lobby and Micheal’s also carry baskets and the supplies you’ll need to beautify your baskets, and you should be able to get these items on sale in the next two weeks.

Wal-Mart & Target are great places to get your basket supplies. And if you’d like to make some gift baskets but are on a budget, the Dollar Bin at Target always has an excellent selection of seasonal items.

Shopping Ahead: Since I’ve started blogging, I often get a lot of holiday ideas after I’ve already made what I’m going to make for the current holiday, so I find myself saving a lot of ideas for later. If this is the case with you as well, and you like buying stuff ahead of time, I recommend going to Wal-Mart the day after Valentine’s and buying some stuffed animals while they’re 50% off. Then you can pack them up and use them in gift baskets next year.
