The fall season is officially upon us! Time to dust off those faux pumpkins, pull your scare crows out of the attic, and get your home looking spooky! Today I’m sharing a little vignette of Halloween stuff that I had up on the shelf of the entertainment center in our living room last year. And I’ll show you just how easy and affordable it is to make your own fall display!

Today I’m looking at some of their living room furniture. The living room is where a lot of us spend the majority of time with the family, and it is also the place where guests will spend most of the time in our homes. For this reason, I tend to spend more time making sure our living room always looks great.
And because the living room is the center of the house, the furniture and decor in this room really say a lot about you and serve as a foundation for the mood and atmosphere of the entire house.

One of the most daunting tasks of sending your children off to college is getting everything they will need for their dorm room and then getting the room set up. One thing that can make the whole shopping experience is easier is first choosing a theme and colors for the room.
As the bed is generally the main “focal point” in any room, it’s a good idea to choose your bedding first. This is your child’s chance to choose something that shows off their personal style, and today’s trends offer a lot of options from girly animal and flower prints to fun chevron and paisley prints, or more masculine sets like plaids, camouflage, and collegiate bedding.

After you’ve chosen your bedding, it is easy to find other accessories for the room in coordinating colors so that you can really bring the space together in a fun and uniform way. I would start with storage bins. Most dorms do not have a lot of closet space, so bins are often needed to store clothing, towels, and supplies. And they have cute sets that can go right along the wall.
Your child should also have a desk and chair. While I think it’s fine to just get your basic desk and chair set, these now come in some fun and bright colors as well.
I also think a desk lamp is a must have item. These come in cool colors, and the one pictured here even allows your child to play and charge his/her iPod.
Next add style and flair with some coordinating wall art, a bulletin board, a matching shag rug, and perhaps a beanbag chair or backrest. And also consider coordinating towels, garbage can, and office supplies.
If it sounds like a lot to buy, consider shopping for everything conveniently online. Online retailers often sell full collections so that you can get everything you want in just a few clicks. But either way you choose to shop, your child will be excited about picking out things for their new room and making their new dorm a true home away from home.
When you are redecorating a room, the right lighting can make all the difference in the world. In fact, just added new lighting to a room can really change things in a big. I also rather enjoyed browsing through all their table lamps. One of my favorite pieces is the Uttermost Lighting Iris Buffet Designed By Carolyn Kinder (pictured above). I love the green and auburn glass. It is so pretty and unique.
And I also like their other home decor, especially the wall mirrors. One in particular that I found interesting was the Fine Art Lamps Beveled Arcs Girandole. I really like the sconces on either side, and I also like the frame around this mirror. It sort of reminds me of the mirror on the wall from Snow White. It has a romantic yet mysterious look to, and it would definitely make a great show piece.

I’m continuing with my “Make Your Home Guest Friendly” series, and today have some tips to help make your living room guest friendly. Among the list, I tried to include tips for atmosphere, decor, and for making your home a more comfortable place.
Before I get to today’s scheduled post, I thought some of my “regulars” might have been wondering what happened to this week’s giveaway. Yes, there will be one, but it will posted tomorrow per the sponsor’s request. (And here’s a hint: Groceries!)
One thing I’ve worked on in our house the last few months, is making the kitchen a little more thematic and color coordinated. At some point last year in one of my posts, I said that our kitchen was having a bit of an identity crisis. So I’ve done different things to make red the primary color, using apples, red checks and plaids. Now I’ve been shopping for things like curtains and curtain blinds.
For my windows I chose: Casey’s Cabin Window Valance by JoJo Designs Red
And I have to confess, and I know I may get some strange looks or laughs for this, but they are actually nursery curtains! I was searching for plaid curtains when I found these, and then afterward I found all the other nursery accessories! (lol)
But I decided to go with these anyway. I liked the different colors and patterns, and it seemed perfect for a country style kitchen!
