I love that face! Skin conditions can be a pain and annoyance for adults, but it is even worse when your child suffers from them. As a new mom I was very diligent about keeping our son’s face clean. I was constantly wiping away spit up and applying lotion as needed to avoid skin irritations. However, when Thaxton was around 3 months old I noticed some redness in his cheeks.
It looked as though he was wind chapped. It was bright red and very dry. We knew from the location of the redness this was not from spitting up or from having an unclean face. Upon doing a little research I learned that it was most likely eczema, and this was confirmed at his four month check-up.
I was surprised to find that eczema and other skin conditions are actually more common in babies today than they have been in the past, and if family members suffer from skin conditions or allergies, your baby will be more likely to have these as well.
Fortunately, there are a lot of products out on the market especially for eczema. We have tried a few different soaps and moisturizing products and have been quite successful in treating Thaxton’s eczema. Today I will be sharing products we like from AVEENO.
I personally love the AVEENO brand. They offer high quality products at a great price. They have several products especially for babies and babies with eczema. I specifically chose the AVEENO brand because their eczema products are approved by the National Eczema Association.
Products we are currently using on Thaxton include AVEENO Baby Cleansing Therapy Moisturizing Wash and AVEENO Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. Both products contain colloidal oatmeal, a skin protectant, and they are free of fragrance, parabens, and steroids. They are clinically shown to relieve dry, itchy, irritated skin due to eczema. The moisturizing wash can be used as a body wash and shampoo for babies and is gentle enough to be used daily.
Additionally we put on the moisturizing cream a few times throughout the day to Thaxton’s face and arms and legs as needed. Most days I apply the moisturizing cream to his arms and legs first thing in the morning and immediately after his evening bath. I also apply to his face at these times and to his face throughout the day.
I was amazed at how well these products initially worked to clear up his dry skin and redness and have been pleased to see the products work on other flare-ups. It is great to see Thaxton looking great and more importantly not suffering from itchiness and his own self-inflicted scratches.
If you have a child who suffers from eczema, I definitely recommend these products to you. Other products to check out include AVEENO Baby Therapy Soothing Bath Treatment and Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm, as well as Aveeno products specifically formulated for adults.
Don’t think you can be too careful when it comes to infants. Time and patients can be good watchwords when trying to get to the bottom of managing the condition.
