Help Make Mom an Entrepreneur: Support her MUMZY Project

The holidays may be over, but that doesn’t mean the giving has to stop! In 2015, you can help give moms the gift of entrepreneurship by helping to fund their project on Mumzy. Mumzy is new crowdfunding site especially for moms. For those of you who aren’t familiar with crowdfunding sites, I’ll explain. They are sites where people share their idea for a product, project, a business, or even a charitable cause, and try to raise money for the endeavor through donations on the site. And apart from giving moms the ability to raise money for their projects, Mumzy also provides them with with other support and resources, so they can grow their business, even after their fundraising goals have been met.
The site was founded by mom and marketing expert Catherine Merritt. Mumzy sees moms as some of the most innovative and inventive entrepreneurs and hopes to help this underserved population.
I love this idea. I’m a big fan of small businesses, and I applaud all women, especially mom’s, who are trying to better themselves through a home based business or other entrepreneurial efforts.
As someone who makes money through my blog site and Etsy shop, I know all about the limitations and restrictions a lack of funds can put on your business. And I know so many people out there are just like me. They have great ideas and are only limited by time and that little thing called the almighty dollar!
Without crowd funding a lot of us have no choice but to do what I’ve done, which is to build a business very slowly. But still more people will be forced to quit due to financial constraints, and some may not start the business at all!
Another great thing about Mumzy is that it allows for fundraising for charitable causes. Currently there are two charitable projects to donate to. One is for PCDH19 Epilepsy Research Funding and the other is for the Choc Children’s Hospital. 
Mumzy is still a new site, and they are very excited for you to be one of the first members of this growing community by posting a project or helping to fund another member’s project. To encourage this, one of the first 100 people to post a project will win $1000 toward their funding goal! Mumzy also invites you to give feedback and make suggestions on how they can make the community better!

Happy New Year! (Again!) As a blogger, it seems to have become quite customary to take the interim period between Christmas and New Year’s Day to look back over the year’s work and then re-share some of the highlights. So I’ve been looking back at everything over the last few days, and today I have a fun round-up of posts for you: my 25 Delicious Must-Make Recipes from 2014!
I can honestly say that I enjoyed making and EATING all of these, so I hope you will check them out and decide to make few of these for yourself (especially the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes….just saying!)

In 2014, I worked on improving my photo staging and editing, but I was still limited by not having a DSLR camera (not to mention, the lighting was not always ideal!). Learning Photography at Home

Over the past year I’ve really worked to improve my pictures for my blog. I’ve spent a lot of time checking out tips and mini courses on photo staging, lighting, and more. I’ve been very proud of the improvements I’ve made, especially when I look at the photos I’ve taken over the last year or so and then compare them to work I did previously. Next year I’ll be dedicated to making even more improvements, as I just FINALLY got a DSLR camera.
I’ve been wanting one of these cameras for the longest time, but as you know, they are quite expensive. We always tend to have other financial obligations, but finally last weekend Santa gave me the go ahead to order my camera and supplies.
The camera is not yet here, but I did get a bunch of STUFF for it in the mail yesterday. I definitely have a lot to learn! Since just buying the camera at all is huge step for me, I certainly couldn’t afford to take any college photography class or private lessons.
Luckily the internet is a great source for learning. But if you’re like me and are looking for more than a few tips, I found a great online photography school where you can get affordable courses on the topics you are most interested in learning.
These courses are not just a collection of articles or an ebook for you to read. They actually include your own personal instructor, which I believe can be a real asset when your learning these kind of skills.

Making Good Decisions Online and #ShareAwesome Contest

The National PTA and LifeLock are teaming up for #ShareAwesome, an advocacy campaign designed to encourage families to embrace technology and use it for good, making positive, safe decisions online. Secondly they wish to open up a conversation between parents and kids, so that teens and tweens can make good decisions online.
This campaign is of particular interest to me, because every afternoon when I sit down at my desk to edit photos or write I post, I can’t help but overhear a young gamer playing on his computer in the next room. When he’s not at school, participating in activities, or sleeping, Noah is glued to his computer! The fact that we can hear him through the walls is a good thing, as it gives us a chance to monitor his activities without constantly looking over his shoulder.
