Relish! Menu Planning Review & Giveaway!

As you all know I love organizing and menu planning. Needless to say, when I got an email asking me to review the Relish! Meal Planning Website, I was really exited, and now I’m excited to be giving away a free membership in honor of my 500th post!

Meal planning can really help you to save money, and it will save you a lot of time. This website would be a great tool for everyone whether you’re a beginner or an expert at menu planning, and it’s very user friendly.

There are a lot of great features that I think you’ll find very helpful. On your main screen, you’ll find a list of meals to choose from, and each week there’s a different list of recipes featured here. The page instructs you to choose 5 meals and one dessert from the menus. On this page there is also a list titled “Dime and Dash,” which gives you a list of quick and inexpensive express meals to choose from.

And on this page you’ll also see a section for favorites. Each week when you create a menu, you can choose to add certain meals to your favorites section, and once these are added to favorites, they will always appear on your menu planning screen. I really like this feature because it allows you to throw a couple of things that you know your family loves in with the new recipes that you select from the menu screen.

Another great feature on the main menu screen is the Recipe Legend. Beside each meal is a symbol which describes what kind of meal it is, and the legend tells you what each of the symbols mean. For example, KF means Kid Friendly. C equals Crockpot. LC means lower calorie. And M means Morning Prep.

And of course, the site is equipped with all the recipes you need. On the main menu planning screen, just click on a meal, and you’ll be directed to a printer friendly page with all the recipes that you need for a particular meal. And to make this feature even better and more useful to you, there is a pull down menu where you can select how many people the meal will be for, and the recipe cards that you view will be adjusted to fit the number of people in your family. Super!

Another favorite feature of mine is the shopping list component. Once you’ve selected the meals you want for your menu, click “create custom menu” and the site directs you to a shopping list. In the first column is a list of “Items You Need but May Already Have.” (Things like milk, butter, and spices.) And then all your other shopping list items are organized into food groups, and the shopping list even includes the quanity of ingredients you need. (So if you’ve selected 2 different meals that include chicken breasts, and you have 4 family members, your shopping list will have 8 chicken breasts on it.) The shopping list even goes as far as to tell you how many eggs you need, or what size package of chili powder you’ll need.

Now let’s say you go on the main menu screen, and none of the featured recipes sound good to you. No problem! Just visit the Menu Archive, and you’ll find a ton of other options, or pull up your Past Menus. But let’s say, you already have a list of favorite recipes on rotation in your house, and you want to add these recipes in with one or two of the Relish recipes each week. No problem again! If you have a favorite recipe, just submit it to Relish, and they will convert it to a meal and put it up with entrees in your favorites list.

Another part of this website that I found very interesting was the “This & That Section.” This section includes a list of special menus. They feature menus for special occasions like Dinner Parties & BBQs, Superbowl, Lunches, Gourmet Potluck, Easter Brunch, Christmas, and Mother’s Day. And the section also includes a list of fun menus for kids of all ages. The list included several movie themed menus including Ratatoille, Kung Fu Panda, Ice Age, and even Twilight. Sounds fun, huh? And I think this section could make your party planning a breeze.

I’m excited to be giving away a One Year Membership to Relish! to one Simply Sweet Home reader. This is a $58.80 value!

Giveaway is Now Closed.

Cheap Cookie Cutters Review and Giveaway

As my loyal readers know, this blog isn’t call Simply Sweet Home for nothing. Yes, we do love our desserts around here, especially cookies!

Recently I had the chance to try out some new cookie cutters from Cheap Cookie Cutters. I got a mini Mickey Mouse cookie cutter and three Christmas Cookie Cutters. My set included a Christmas Tree, Stocking, and Angel.

These were great! They shipped quickly to my house. And I was immediately pleased by their size and condition. Previously I’ve bought a set of hard plastic cookie cutters, and I have to that these are a lot better than those. They cut better, and the shapes come out very nicely. (Much better than those old plastic cutters I have!)

As I looked through the Cheap Cookie Cutters website I found a lot of noteworthy cookie cutters to tell my baking and blogging friends about. For instance, the site has an entire section of Disney Cookie Cutters, including Mickey, Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet.

They also have alphabet & number cutters and even United States Cookie Cutters. What a great–and not to mention, a yummy–way for kids to learn.

And there are so many other great cookie cutters to be found at this website. Also, if you go there now and put in the coupon code 10off at checkout, you get 10% off your purchase! So head on over there right now and pick up what you need for Christmas baking, or pick up something for your baking friends.

Giveaway: One Simply Sweet Home Reader will win a set of Christmas Cookie Cutters like the one shown above worth $11.99. To win, visit Cheap Cookie Cutters and then come back here and tell us your favorite cookie cutter or cookie cutter set.

Holey Donuts Review & Giveaway

The other day the Fed-Ex guy left a big box at my door. I was thrilled and literally jumped for joy when I looked at the box label and read the words “Holey Donuts.” Today I’m pleased to tell you about my Holey Donuts Experience and tell you how you can win some Holey Donuts for your family.

Holey Donuts is a gourmet donut company that specializes in low fat, low calorie donuts. Obviously when we think of the word “donut” very few people think of the phrase, “low fat, low calories.” And then if we add the word “delicious” to that phrase, many would say, “Impossible. A delicious, low calorie donut? There’s no such thing.” Well, if you are one of those people, prepare to be amazed!

These premium, low fat gourmet donuts are made entirely by hand, requiring 22 steps from the mixing, hand rolling, cutting, and special patented cooking process. Donuts are then hand filled and each donut is decorated with the finest homemade care. They are then gently hand packaged and frozen and quickly shipped to you by FedEx.

Holey Donuts sent me a box of their Jumbo Reduced Fat Cinnamon Rolls, a box of Jumbo Reduced Fat Blueberry Vanilla Cinnamon Rolls, and a box of their Reduced Fat Mini Cinnamon Rolls. I can’t say enough about how great these are. Of the three, my favorite was the mini cinnamon rolls. The minis are the perfect size for a quick snack at home or work. I can heat up one or two and be perfectly satisfied. And because they come 16 to a box, they would be great to feed to your family in the morning. And they’d be an ideal snack to serve or take to a party.

I was impressed by the way the donuts were shipped and packaged. The donuts were shipped within a couple of days through Fed-Ex. Inside the cardboard shipping box was a Styrofoam cooler, and the bottom of the cooler was filled with packs of dry ice to ensure that your donuts remain frozen. And of course, inside the cooler each order of donuts is in a separate box. And they are high quality boxes that will protect your pastries from freezer burn.

The second thing that impressed me was the fact that the donuts can be prepared very quickly. I’ve grown accustomed to getting cakes and pies that need to be thawed over night and all day before they are ready to eat. With Holey Donuts, you just remove your pastry from the box, and place it in the microwave, cooking it at 5 second intervals. So in 30 seconds or less, you can have a hot fresh cinnamon roll. Imagine it: No more turning on the oven or heading out to your local bakery if you want a fresh donut or cinnamon roll. Excellent!

And finally the taste of these was just remarkable! They were hot and fresh. They tasted like something you would make at home or get from your finest bakery. They were incredibly sweet and flavorful. And it’s obvious that a lot of care went in to making them.

If you place an order with Holey Donuts, you won’t be disappointed. I would definitely recommend these to my friends and family, as well as my blogging pals. In case your curious, Holey Donuts has a ton of flavors to choose from. Here are just a few selections that I’d love to try:

Reduced Fat Boston Cream Oreo Cookie:

Low Fat Chocolate Crumb:

Low Fat Chocolate Fudge Crumb • Low Fat Vanilla Crumb • Low Fat Caramel Crumb:

Rock Candy Vintage

Who doesn’t love vintage? My newest sponsor, Candace, of Rock Candy Vintage offers vintage clothing, bags, supplies, jewelry, and accessories. She originally started Rock Candy as a vintage clothing store on Ebay, and now she’s opened up a shop on etsy.

The Must-See items at Rock Candy Vintage are in the Tree Candy jewelry line. Tree Candy is a variety of necklaces made from wood pieces. The wood pendants are so unique and whimsical! I know you will just love them!

The Joshua Tree Necklace is made from a piece of cherry wood and features a tea stained mod podged photo of a Joshua Tree printed on recycled paper, an antiqued copper plated twisted chain, and turquoise colored beads. The back of necklace has a tea stained saying which reads: A story of Survival, Resilience, and Beauty, printed on recycled paper.

Candace has several necklaces that feature birds. These are made in the same fashion as the Joshua Tree necklace, and Candace has put much care and detail into the above design, using a piece of wood found in the desert and two small pieces of an actual cresote bush, glued and sealed with clear acrylic, to make it look like the bird is perched on a branch. The back of necklace has the logo “Tree Candy” burned into wood. Very nice!

For those of you who like personalized items, here’s something especially for you. Your love carving necklace will display your initials burned inside of a heart, and a date can be burned into the back. This necklace is also sealed and preserved with mod podge.

There are so many beautiful necklaces to be had in this shop! You’ll find butterfly necklaces, a cherry necklace, a rabbit, lots of beautiful birds, and there’s even a couple of Alice in Wonderland necklaces that are just adorable!

Visit Rock Candy Vintage on Etsy today! Also check out the Rock Candy Vintage ebay store, and follow Rock Candy Vintage on twitter.
