Keeping pets is something that many of us find joy in at some stage of our lives. Most families have a lot of love to give when it comes to adopting or buying a new pet; whether it be a cute little puppy, a tiny little hamster, an interesting reptile or a goldfish, pets are treasured all over the world.

The joy of owning a pet and inviting an animal to become a part of the family is undoubtedly a rewarding thing. But when it comes to pets and cleanliness in the home, it can become a problem.

Pets can be very messy in the home and if you have a busy lifestyle, it’s not always easy to keep on top of cleaning the rabbit hut, changing the guinea-pig’s sawdust bedding or washing the dog’s furry coat. Stress Free Cats with Comfort Zone® with Feliway®

As many of you know, I love my kitty cats.  I got Dixie Belle and Rebel when they were 2 months old, and If have had them now for four and a half years.  Then late last year a little white cat we now call Sugar Belle showed up at my dad’s house, and I offered to take her to get her fixed. I got a little attached to her, and long story short, she is still here!

My cats are mostly well behaved.  But they do get a little scared when people are around.  Rebel has just finally gotten to a point where he will come in the living room when “strangers” are here, and Dixie runs away when someone comes over.  And both Rebel and Dixie are terrified of Sugar Belle.

One thing I’ve been pleased with about all three cats is that they don’t have any problems with urine marking, but occasionally we do have issues with scratching.

So for all the reasons I have mentioned, I’ve been interested in trying Comfort Zone® with Feliway®, and I was very excited to receive a sample of the product.

I’ve got mine plugged up in our living room.  Actually Rebel and Dixie Belle spend most of their time in our office, but I decided to place it in the living room, so it would be centrally located.  Thisis also the room where the “strangers” always enter, and a place where I’d like some help saving my furniture, so I’m hoping it will be effective.

So far I’ve noticed  a couple of things.  My mom came over the other day, and Dixie not only came in the room with me, but she also went over to my mom to get petted.   And Sugar Belle, who’s still pretty wild because she is young and untrained, seems to be calming down.

Comfort Zone® with Feliway® also comes in a spray that I would like to try.  You can spray it on places where the cats mark or scratch.  And you can also use it in pet carriers before taking your cat on a trip.  Rebel and Dixie completely panic when they are put in a carrier, so I think this would be a lifesaver for trips to the vet.

They have a line of safe, non-toxic, cleaning products, to take care of everything from carpets and upholstery, to wood and tile floors, concrete, auto, and more!  There’s even cage cleaner, litter box cleaner, and de-skunk coat cleaner!

Organizing for Your Pets: Purina Health & Wellness App

As many of you know, here at Simply Sweet Home, we have two resident cats, the adorable Rebel and Dixie. You can also use the app to keep your pet’s health records. I love this feature! This can be extremely helpful, especially if you’re not going not good with keeping paper records, or you have to move or suddenly swap vets, or if an emergency comes up, it will be good to be able to pull up your pet’s records in an instant.

The app will also help you to locate a vet in your area. Again, that’s very helpful in an emergency.  And you can also check out first aid tips, medications, and more!

Morton Safe-T-Pet Review & Giveaway

Winter can be hazardous for people living in cold-weather regions – and for our four-legged friends. To help keep pets safe this winter, Morton Salt’s Safe-T-Pet® brand ice melt and the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) announced a public service campaign that kicks off on the first day of winter, Dec. 22, with “National Keep Pets Safe in Winter Day.”

The purpose of the campaign, which runs through January 2012, is to share important pet safety tips with as many pet owners as possible to help reduce winter weather-related pet injuries and fatalities. These tips can be found on Morton’s website and Facebook.

Here are just a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Using pet-friendly (salt free and chloride free) ice melters such as Morton® Safe-T-Pet®.
  • Keeping anti-freeze high on shelves in sealed containers and quickly cleaning any spills/leakage.
  • Limiting outdoor time for pets when temperatures drop below freezing.
  • Checking warm spots on cars, such as hoods, where animals might seek shelter from the cold.
  • Keeping pets on a leash, especially dogs, which can become disoriented or lost when once familiar surroundings are covered in ice and snow; and
  • Making sure pets are wearing identification tags and proper outerwear as needed.

Help ASPCA with One Click

 The Simply Sweet Home Cats are proud supporters of the ASPCA..
As part of this campaign, Morton is making a $20,000 donation to the ASPCA to help continue its life-saving work and provide resources to pet owners on pet wellness.
And when you “like”  Morton’s Facebook page  from Oct. 1 through Jan. 31, 2012, Morton will donate $1 to the ASPCA, up to $55,000. This additional funding from Morton will be used by the ASPCA to raise awareness about the importance of proper winter pet care and safety.

Morton’s Safe-T-Pet Ice Melt – I was happy to receive a review pack of items, which included the Morton Ice Melt.  Since we had two big rounds of snow last year and are expecting another cold winter in 2012, I’m sure this will come in handy.

Our kitty cats are happy little indoor cats, but we can still use the ice melts, and I know our Neighbor Dogs, Buddy and Barney, who often frequent our yard, will be happy to know we have the Safe-T-Pet Ice Melt.
Other deicers form a liquid brine, often containing chlorides that can irritate pet’s paws and if ingested, irritate the pet’s stomach. My Thoughts: We tried the Multiple Cat Clumping Formula.  I liked that I could pour the litter in the pan without a lot of dust flying up.  And I also liked the fine consistency of this litter.  The cats quickly accepted the change of litter after a little sniff or two.

And this litter did a good job of covering up odors. The litter clumped up very well for easy scooping. Plus, with this litter, I didn’t have to deal with that ammonia smell that can sometimes take your breath away when scooping.

All in all, I’d say this is a good product.  And if you’re interested in trying a litter that’s a litter more environmentally friendly and lacks chemicals that can be harmful to your and your cat children, you should give World’s Best Cat Litter a try!

As a cat mommy, I’m always interested to learn about cleaning products that are safe to use around my kitty babies. Simple Solution is a complete line of pet products from Training Pads and Diapers to Household cleaners.

Our family had the chance to try the Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover.  This product is the only formula with both Pro-Bacteria & enzymes to totally eliminiate stains and odors, and like the other Simple Solution products, it is safe for use around pets and children.

This product is made to be used on carpets, upholstery, bedding, clothing, and any water-safe surface.  And it is so easy and convenient to use.  You just add a little cleaner to the soiled spot; wait 10 minutes for it to work in, then blot the excess moisture, and let dry.  Very easy!
You can also add this to your Carpet Cleaning Machines, or you can use it to pretreat your stained clothing before washing.
Our kitty cats were well trained as kittens by their cat-mom Molly, so we don’t ever have a problem with urine and feces.  The one problem that we do have occasionally is throw-up, usually due to hair balls.  And you never know when this may occur, so it’s good for me to have a product like this around for a quick and easy cleaning job.  IApart from the ease of use, I was very pleased with the pleasant and clean smell of the product.  And most of all, I love that it’s chemical free and safe to use around Rebel and Dixie.
