Portable Minecraft with Gameband

Is your child or teen a gamer?  Does he/she love Minecraft™?  If so, here’s a great item for you Christmas list.  It’s called a Gameband.  Minecraft is definitely one of Noah’s favorite and most played games of 2014, so for us, this gift is a no-brainer, as it comes pre-loaded with game content and allows him to save the worlds he creates on the game. Sounds fun, huh?  And of course, I love it because it’s also a cute fashion accessory!

Gameband at Target

I purchased the Gameband at Target in the video game Aisle. You should see it on a hanging rack with the mobile gaming cards; however, in my store, I actually found it on a shelf with other video games.  When I called to see if they had it, there were only 3 in stock, and by the time I got to the store that evening, they only had 2.  So if you’re thinking of getting get this as a Christmas gift, I suggest that you hurry, as they seem to be going fast!  (Keep in mind when purchasing, Minecraft™ Game License is sold separately.)

Gameband for Minecraft

Gameband is made by Now Computing and is affiliated with Minecraft™.   If you have any feedback about the Gameband, you should contact Now Computing.  Gameband Minecraft™ is the first-ever Minecraft™ wearable.  It is best for kids aged 8 to 15, and it comes in 2 sizes (Small – 6.7 inches and Large – 7.2 inches).    Essentially it is similar to a USB, but it is an upgraded version with an awesome twist (see the unboxing video below).  Gameband comes Pre-loaded with gaming content, like maps from Sethbling, Hypixel and Dragonz, and it allows you to save your worlds and take them with you for use on any computer!

Noah’s been checking out the Gameband over the last week.  Some of his favorite features include:

  • The pre-loaded maps and ability to save worlds, and the ability to take them anywhere and use it on any computer.  (This is great because now he can play on his computer here, and also play on the computer at his other house.)
  • He likes that it can be worn as a wrist watch that tells you the date and the time.
  • It also comes with PixelFurnace, an App that lets you customize Gameband with messages, images and animations that you create.  He’s been wearing it around the house over the last week and showing us the different animations that he’s been creating.  (It’s very neat!)
  • And finally Gameband not only features ultra-fast, long lasting software, and  saves your Worlds…it also backs them up onto their secure, cloud-based servers.  This way if you lose it, all you have to do is contact Now Computing and order a replacement.  All your data will still be there! (And believe me, the way things sometimes disappear around here, that’s a definite possibility, so this feature is a real plus!)

Daisy BB Gun

Does your child spend a lot of time staring at computer screens, mobile devices, and electronic games?  Ours too!  Each day after school, Noah can hardly wait to get home to his computer (as he’s mobile gaming in the back seat).  But we also encourage him to do outdoor activities.  For example, he likes to go camping, fishing, and hunting.  And while we can’t exactly do these activities every day, going out to do some target shooting is quite do-able.  For this reason, we got Noah an early Christmas present: the Daisy 880 BB Gun. Noah is 14, so this is a very good gun for his age group.  If you want your child to spend more time outdoors too, you can encourage them and teach them about hunting or camping. Daisy has a lot of great Christmas gifts for boys and girls. [Read more…]

Noah Birdwell

Noah started his freshman year of high school nearly two weeks ago.  So far he seems to like it okay.  It is hard to believe he is in high school; I think this is something that sneaks up on parents and most find they aren’t “ready” for it.  When we took him to band camps during the summer, his dad first looked around and said, “It’s so weird to drop off Noah here, and most of these kids actually drove themselves. He’s too young for all this!”  And he’s also remarked, “Wow, some of these kids have facial hair!”  haha.

But aside from the basic anxieties, I think everyone is excited about the school year.  I’m not sure if Noah is excited about all this pre-AP coursework he signed up for, but I know he’s very excited about being in band this year, and he’s look forward to this year’s band trip.
