Turn Your Clutter Into Cash

This summer I have a lot of home improvement and home makeover projects. One of these projects is to clean out our outbuilding, and one way we are doing that is by having a big yard sale next. Do you declutter? The infographic below tells a little bit of info on just how much unnecessary clutter people have in their homes. Very interesting!

Fighting Stains with OxiClean: Review & Giveaway

OxiClean Giveaway

A week or two ago, I started going through clothes for my upcoming, and much anticipated yard sale, and I also rearranged all my closets and drawers, putting away winter clothes, and getting those spring and summer clothes organized and accessible.  Whenever I do my semi-annual clothes clean ups, I usually find there are a few things that need to be thrown in the washer for a little freshening up.  Enter OxiClean!

I’ve been seeing OxiClean advertised on television for years, but I only just recently tried one of their products.  The company has a number of powdered and liquid detergents for clothing and dish washing.  In my case, I tried the White Revive Laundry Stain Remover.

The product comes in a small 3 pound tub, which is enough for 45 loads.  As you can imagine from the name, it is especially designed to remove stains and keep your whites bright.  But unlike other whitening products, the OxiClean is chlorine free, has no harsh odors, and is safe to use on colored clothes.  And it is also dye and scent free, which means it is safe to use on baby clothes and on items for people with sensitive skin and allergies.

Personally I was happy with the results I got from this detergent.  It did a great job of cleaning the clothes.  Plus, I know a lot of people don’t like the fruity or flowery smells that go along with other detergents, so if you are one of those people, this detergent would certainly be to your liking in that regard.

Giveaway! One Simply Sweet Home reader will win a box of OxiClean detergent.

Laundry Simplified with Purex No Sort

Purex No Sort

If you’ve been a regular visitor to my blog and checked out my product reviews, you know that I am fan and user of Purex laundry products.  Their detergent and fabric softeners do a great job keeping our clothes clean and fresh, and they smell great too.  And they are also way more affordable compared to the other leading brands.  One of the newest products from Purex is Purex No Sort.  This product is exactly what it sounds like.  It allows you to wash a load of clothes in any color without worrying about the colors fading on one another.

How does it work, you say? The detergent features a breakthrough Anti-Color-Transfer Technology™ which traps loose dyes in the wash and reduces color bleeding accidents in your mixed color loads leaving your clothes bright and clean.

The product has a nice, clean scent, and I think it did a great job on the clothes.  I also love the concept of the product.  In my household, my clothes are already basically presorted before the wash.  I have a hamper for towels, a separate hamper for each person, and a small bin for whites.  From there, I tend to wash the nicer clothes (blouses, dress shirts, and dress pants) on gentle cycle, separate from other clothes like jeans or pajamas which go on the ultra clean cycle.

Still even with this organized sorting method, I sometimes have to separate the laundry further if I have a new red shirt or some black items that I don’t want to put in with the lighter colors, so I think the detergent could come in handy for me, as it could mean less smaller loads to wash.

And I especially think the product would come in handy for people who are in a hurry and don’t have time to separate laundry, let alone wait for everything to wash in separate.  And it would be like a blessing to those who have one or two hampers, where everything is all thrown in together.

So if you want to simplify your laundry routine, I recommend trying Purex No Sort.

Freshen Up Your Home with the Air Wick National Park Collection

Airwick National Parks Fragrances

As I clean house, I love to freshen things up with a little fragrance.  I was recently contacted about reviewing some new limited edition scents from Air Wick. They have partnered with the National Park Foundation to craft fragrances inspired by the natural elements found in our national parks. The new limited edition scents introduced this spring are: Grand Canyon, American Samoa, Denali, Hawai’i, Virgin Islands and Gulf Islands.

Currently I’m using the American  Somoa scent in my kitchen.  Since coconut is one of my favorite scents, I really love this fragrance.  It is a very clean scent and has a tropical island appeal too.  And because it is coconut, that also makes it great for the kitchen, although I think it would be perfect for any room.

I’m also using the Denali scent in my main bathroom.  It has a fresh linen scent, and it really gives your bathroom a “just cleaned” scent.  Because it has cotton/linen scent to it, it would also be great for your bedrooms if you use fragrances in those.

And then I also got the Hawai’i scent.  I haven’t used it in the house yet, but I think it is going to be great.  It has a tropical fruit smell to it, almost like a Hurricane drink.  I’d probably use this in any room except the bedroom.

And then the Grand Canyon has a very sweet, floral fragrance to it.  It’s so nice!  And I think it would be great in an entry hall, bathroom, or living area.

Finish Quantum Rise and Shine Challenge

Finish Shine Challenge

I love cooking, but I do NOT love washing dishes!  Even if I use the dishwasher, I usually have to do a lot of pre-rinsing and washing, particularly on sticky foods like cakes and casseroles, and if I don’t do this, I will mostly like have to re-wash dishes and that is no fun at all. Not to mention, it is a huge waste of my time.  (And if you forget and leave these dishes in your dishwasher, they can get pretty disgusting!)  With all this in mind, I was happy when I got the opportunity to take the Finish Rise & Shine Challenge this week from Finish® Quantum®.
