Make This The Year You Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions!

It’s that time of year again. The time when we bid farewell to the old and embrace the infinite promise of the new. In 2020 we welcome not just a new year but a new decade, forging a path towards a better version of ourselves and a happier and more successful life. And it’s likely that your New Year’s resolutions will play a part in that… at least in theory. New Year’s resolutions are nothing new. In fact, they’ve been a part of many Western cultures since the days of ancient Rome. But for all our ambition and sincerity when we make our resolutions, we’re pretty consistently terrible at keeping them. Perhaps it’s because our resolutions make us miserable, causing us to experience pain that’s disproportionate to the gain. Or maybe they’re poorly defined, unrealistic or frankly impossible.

Let’s look at some of the ways you can re-frame this year’s resolutions to be more positive and achievable than last year’s so that hopefully you’ll be able to stick to them…

Make them specific and realistic

Many of us fall short of achieving our resolutions because they’re too vague and we have no idea how to track our progress on the way to achieving them. Make your resolutions as specific and realistic as possible and make sure you have a clear metric in place to determine how close or how far you are from achieving them.

Make them personal

Please don’t fall into the trap of making yourself miserable to achieve someone else’s goals just because you feel that you should or because all of your work colleagues are pursuing them. Your resolutions should be personal and help you to feel better about yourself. The more personal your goals, the better.

Make them enjoyable

Putting your resolutions into action should be challenging and fun, not a gruelling chore. If pursuing a resolution makes you miserable, you’ll inevitably jettison it by March. So try and re-frame your resolutions in terms that make you happier. Use going to the gym as an excuse to show off the new Bonds clothing to which you’ve just treated yourself. Use your vow to eat more healthily as an excuse to find new recipes that you love cooking and eating. You need to love the journey rather than just the destination… otherwise you won’t get anywhere!

Make them positive

Your resolutions should be about investing in yourself and taking better care of yourself, not flagellating yourself for not being able to achieve an impossibly high standard. Encourage yourself and congratulate yourself on your achievements… don’t fall into the trap of just berating yourself for your failures.

And don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Don’t aim for a new you. To do so would be to discount the thoroughly lovely person that the old you was and is. By all means strive for self-improvement… but don’t throw the baby out with the proverbial bathwater.

Remember that you and your life will always be a work in progress. You won’t achieve transcendence this year… and you won’t next year either. But maybe you’ll be a little happier, healthier and more comfortable in your own skin.

New Year And A Change Of Lifestyle: What You Might Focus On This Year 100%

When it comes to the new year, it presents the perfect opportunity to allow you to wipe the slate clean. A new year, and in this case, a new decade means that you can review the last year, workout what went well and what didn’t, you can then craft up some new goals and resolutions to get going with. However, what to do or to focus on may be the big issue that you have.

Some people like to set big goals. Others like to make small changes that may see a greater impact after some time. It might even include a mixture of the two. However you go about it, now is the time to start thinking about it. With that in mind, here are some of the popular areas that you might want to focus on in the new year ahead.

Getting more sleep

It could be that you want to spend more time on yourself this next year, and that might mean rest and relaxation or certainly more sleep. We can all be guilty of burning the candle at both ends or feeling stressed out about certain things that can keep us up at night, but generally speaking, sleep is one thing that a lot of us could do with more of. It might be worth trying to figure out what reasons are causing you not to sleep. It might be that you can’t sleep because you have a toothache or other aches and pains in your body. It might be that mentally you can’t relax and switch off your thoughts, hence laying awake. It could be that you just go to bed too late or spend time doing other things. Making sleep a priority can help you to increase your energy levels and feel brighter during the day.

Changing your diet and being healthier

One of the most popular resolutions and goals that people set when it comes to the new year is to change their diet in some way. There can be many different reasons and incentives behind this, but generally speaking, after an indulgent festive period, people just want to be a little more healthier. You might look at changing your diet in terms of the food you eat, such as going plant based or cutting out meat products. Maybe you just want to increase your intake of the good stuff like vegetables and proteins and avoid sugary snacks and junk food. However, one thing to try and avoid this new is extreme diets, as they can often not be sustainable when it comes to your health and wellbeing.

Starting to exercise more frequently

Another popular resolution that people may have when it comes to the new year is to start exercising more. It may sound crazy, but January is one of the most popular times of the year to kick start an exercise regime. However, this resolution can often be one of the biggest to not be kept up with. That is often because people set too many goals or high expectations of themselves. If exercise is something you want to focus on, you may have big goals, but don’t forget to set smaller targets to help you stay motivated and inspired.

A new job or change of career

It could be that you want to change of career in the new year or you perhaps just want to move on to another company or job. This can also be a popular goal as many people feel inspired and look back on the previous twelve months looking for change. Your career is something where you spend a huge chunk of time, so it is worth doing something that you love, feel inspired by, or at the very least is worth it for your time. If a change of career or job is on the cards work hard on your resume and take action to seek out potential job roles. Many new opportunities will be advertised in the month of January.

Working for yourself

You may want to take the career change one step further and start working for yourself. Again January is a big time of the year where people feel inspired to make big changes, and a new business venture where you can finally have the home and work life balance right could be on the cards. If you have an idea, why not put some plans in place and start working on your business in your spare time? Not everyone will be in a position to give up the day job straight away, but you may feel more motivated than ever before to start using your spare time more wisely in this area.

Giving up a vice

Another popular goal for the new year is to give up some sort of vice that you may have had. This might be smoking or drinking, it might even be biting your nails. Whatever it is, January always seems to be an amazing starting point for giving something up and being able to monitor how well you are doing. There are some fantastic supportive articles online that can help with all kinds of vices that you may be looking to give up in the new year.

Learning something new

The new year isn’t always always about giving something up, in some cases, it might be that you want to learn something new. This could be a new language, a homie or a new skill. There are so many different options out there to try.

Focusing on your mindset

Finally, maybe the new year is a time to focus on your mindset and how you think. It can be a very pressuring time of year as so many people want to focus on change, and this is when your mindset can have a bit of a wobble. Taking it back a little and working on yourself could be a good option to have. It might involve things like meditation, reading self help books or changing the way you think.

Let’s hope these tips help you when it comes to the new year and a change of lifestyle that might be on the cards for you.

Planning the Perfect Gender Reveal Party

Congratulations! If you are expecting a new member in your family or if you’re here just for gender reveal ideas then you have come to the right place. Pregnancy is an amazing journey and having a gender reveal party is a great way to have fun and surprise your family and friends. Are you thinking of planning a gender reveal party? Or do you want it to be very surprising for everyone, but don’t know how to make it so? Continue reading for an easy how-to guide with unique ideas in which you and your guests will love.

Early Gender Reveal Party

These days, it’s becoming more popular to host gender reveal parties after the gender of the fetus is determined at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. One of the tips for planning a gender reveal party is to get a gender DNA test before 18-20 weeks. The gender DNA test is a blood test that is 99% accurate and it allows the parents to have access to the gender of the fetus as early as 8 weeks. This enables parents to have a gender reveal party earlier surprise family and friends. Another reason why it’s a good idea to get an early baby gender test is that the pregnant mother will not be as tired when enjoying the gender reveal party with loved ones.

Makeup of a Gender Reveal Party

Picking the perfect guest list, theme, food, and invitations are vital in a gender reveal party. The theme and invitations are usually created with the colors pink or blue incorporated in them. No one can decide what color or shade of pink or blue you should have because you should be able to choose what you see fit. Having a nice setting is mandatory and doesn’t need to be expensive. Many choose the outdoors when the weather is great and even their own backyards as the surprise reveal is done in a dramatic presentation. As far as food goes, you can choose a summertime BBQ or whatever you like to serve your guests. Don’t forget the dessert table, cake, and assigning a photographer which are all necessary. Some use cake with pink or blue filling inside to reveal the gender of the baby when it’s cut. Balloons, table decor, table cloths, streamers are the typical makeup of a gender reveal party and are easy and affordable. One of the creative games for your party can be having guests dress up in either pink or blue which will determine which team they will be in and who the winners will be after the gender reveal. The winners then receive a small prize.

Unique Surprise Gender Reveals

We have finally made it to the most exciting part, the surprise gender reveal. You don’t want to just open an envelope announcing the gender. You want it to be a unique and memorable moment. There are many creative ways to do this. You can have a dark balloon or piñata that has pink or blue colored confetti in it and releases the confetti once popped or cracked. Another idea is using powder or confetti-filled compressed air cannons to pop with your partner. A closed banner or box with pink or blue balloons inside which will fly in the air once opened is an adorable surprise as well. Regardless of how you surprise your loved ones, remember to be happy and grateful always.

Tips for Throwing the Perfect Super Bowl Party at Your House

The holidays are upon us, and shortly after they are over and done, the most anticipated event of the season for many will be right around the corner. If football and the much anticipated Super Bowl is a big deal in your house, then you might need some tips for throwing the best football party ever at your home this season. Even if you don’t enjoy football there are many reasons to watch the Super Bowl.  For instance, a lot of people enjoy sports betting, and some are even able to make some money from the Super Bowl, and various other games and tournaments that take place throughout the year. If you are interested in sports betting, you can click here to learn about some of the sportsbooks that are out there so that you can choose the one that fits you and your needs the best.

So, whether you like football or you don’t, if you’re tasked with throwing the party at your house this year, read on below for a few tips to make it the best one you’ve ever hosted.

Grab a Few Simple Presents

The Super Bowl isn’t just about football, just watching the game is one of America’s favorite pastimes. To make your event even more special, don’t pass up the opportunity to give your guests a grab bag to go, just like you would at any other party you hosted. Some possible gifts include miniature footballs, football cards, patriotic shirts for all, or any type of memorabilia with your guest’s favorite team on it. Having a grab bag for guests to take home will not only make them feel special, but it will also have them talking about your party for months to come, maybe even into the next football season.

An Awesome TV Is Needed

The one thing you can’t have the best Super Bowl party ever without is an awesome TV. The larger the TV is, the better the game will be. What’s important to note here is that the more people you invite, the larger the screen of your TV needs to be. After all, everyone needs to be able to see the game without crowding and from wherever they happen to be in the room.

Have Plenty of Seating Available

Whether you’re watching the game indoors or outside on a huge outdoor TV, you need to have enough seating areas so that everyone can be comfortable. Seating can include anything from couches to chairs and from bean bags to comfortable stools. If you don’t have enough seating, ask friends and family to bring a few camping or folding chairs along with them.

Plenty of Food

The biggest necessary item, next to the TV, of course, is enough food. You just can’t have any kind of a Super Bowl party without the right food. Of course, you’re going to have plenty of chips and dip, but you also need stuff like chicken wings, nachos, pizza, pigs in a blanket and much more. If you’re not sure what your friends and family would like for the party, ask them to bring some of the food on the lists with them, so you won’t have to do all of the work yourself.

The Right Kind of Drinks

While everyone knows that beer drinking and the Super Bowl just go together, you need to have the right kind of beer at the party. On top of that, not everyone at the party is going to be a drinker. Make sure you have bottled water, diet and regular sodas, and Kool-aid and juices for any kids that are joining the party as well.

Make it BYOB (Bring Your Own Beer)

With all of the different brands and variety of beer out there today, there is no way you can please everyone in that department. Instead of trying, and then breaking the bank buying beer for your football party, make it BYOB, bring your own beer. In this way, you’re not spending a fortune, and everyone is happy with the type of beer they drink and enjoy.

These are just a few tips for throwing the best Super Bowl party at your house this year. Do it the right way and people will be talking about your party until next season begins.

Renting: Making The Most Of It

If you have always been a tenant rather than an owner, you will know that renting is often something of a mixed bag. However, there are many ways in which you can hope to make the most of it, and as long as you bear that in mind you should find that you can get a lot more out of it in no time. If you can do that, then it means you are going to enjoy it more, and get into a position where you can then become an owner much sooner. Let’s look at how you might do that.

Moving Somewhere Affordable

One of the ways to make sure that renting a home is going to work out for you is to move to somewhere which is distinctly more affordable. It might be that you have always lived in places which are not so affordable to rent, and if that is the case then you will need to think about what you can do to move somewhere more affordable. That could just mean going to the next town along, or it might mean moving across the country. Or, it could mean something more extravagant: moving somewhere completely different and renting in Singapore or somewhere like that. The rent in such places is generally much cheaper, so you can make much more of the situation.

Understanding Your Rights

Much of what tenants complain about is a case of not really understanding what it is that they are entitled to and what their rights are. You have a lot of rights when it comes to renting property, and you need to make sure that you are fully aware of them. If you are not, then you can’t really hope to fully understand what you can get out of the situation you are in. Of course, those rights will vary in their specifics from place to place, but generally you should remember that you can’t simply be thrown out of your accommodation for no reason, and nor do you have to put up with constant unannounced visits from your landlord. These are just two important things to remember about what you are entitled to.

Saving Up

As long as you are renting, you will probably want to think about saving up money as much as possible. That might be so that you can buy your own property one day, or it could just be a generally good thing to do. But in any case, you should make sure that you are going to be able to save up as much money as possible, so that you can really make the most of renting while you are doing it. As long as you have a good budget and you stick to it, you should find that you can save up a lot of money in no time, even if your rent is higher than you would ideally like it to be. That is a good situation to be in, so try to get there.

Making The Place Yours

Just because you are renting does not mean that you can’t make the place yours to some degree. You might not be allowed to paint the walls or make any huge, lasting changes, but you can still do plenty to make it much more personal to you. Besides, doing that is going to mena that you enjoy living there much more, which means you will stay there longer, so it is good for your landlord to allow this anyway. At the very least, you should be able to hang up posters and pictures and generally make the place suitable for you. Do as much as you can on this front without breaking any of the rules, and you should find that you feel much more as though it is yours, at least while you are there. That is important for remaining happy, which is the most important thing of all.

Keeping An Eye On The Market

Try not to fall into the trap of just renting the same place forever without really thinking about it. Prices vary all the time, and you should instead make sure that you are keeping an eye on the market if you want to ensure that you are going to rent from the best place that is currently available for you. As long as you keep an eye out, you will know when it is a good time to move and so on, which is a big part of making the most of the renting experience.

Everything You Need to Know About Hamster Care

Hamsters make wonderful pets, especially when it comes to a family’s first pet with younger children. With several different breeds of hamster, it’s important to know what you want before you make a purchase, as they can vary in size, temperament and so on. You usually find that hamsters live to around 2-3 years, so you’re not committing to years and years of care and attention, which many families often struggle to do making hamsters a better option over dogs or cats. Just like any pet, hamsters require a certain level of love and attention, with the right care to keep them healthy, happy and strong.

The Needs of a Hamster

All hamsters are different, but they all have similar needs when it comes to the way they are cared for. Whilst there isn’t an exact way to care for them, it’s still essential to follow the normal steps in taking care of them to ensure they are healthy and living a high-quality of life. Once you get to know your hamster, you will start to pick up on its needs, what it likes and doesn’t like and so on. This will help you to care for your hamster in the very best way, as you’ll start to know what they like to eat, when they like to eat, whether they like being handled a lot and other important things like that.

Let Them Explore

You’ll find that, no matter what breed of hamster you have, they all love to explore. From nuzzling into their hay bedding to playing with the cardboard from toilet rolls, hamsters will do their very best to explore their area and get great entertainment from this! To help encourage your hamster to explore and stimulate them, you can invest in some great small animal toys that are designed to add adventure to your hamster’s cage. From exciting see-saws to tuff tubes, you can find a great range online here from big brands including Ancol, Rosewood Pet and more. Providing your hamster with a space that they can enjoy will really help to keep their brains active, keep them healthy and ensure they don’t become bored.

Nutritional Essentials

Even though hamsters are only very small, they require a specific balance of nutrients to ensure they stay happy and healthy. The main food that hamsters enjoy is simple pellet food, as this helps to keep them active and full without taking away any of the vitamins they require. You should be feeding your hamster every single day, with their bowl three quarters full to ensure they have a constant supply of food. Hamsters also love to graze on vegetables like carrot and kale, which helps to vary their diet a little and give them something interesting to eat every now and then.

Plenty of Playtime

With their love of exploring, hamsters also love to stay active and play. Investing in a hamster wheel or ball is a really good way of getting their exercise in and providing them with hours of entertainment. These items are also ideal for your own peace of mind. Hamsters are very small, so you want to keep an eye on them at all times and when safely inside their hamster ball you can rest assured, they aren’t able to escape or explore the rest of the house!

How to Buy a Better Furnace — Fast

house

The last thing you want just before the winter holidays is for your heating to go out — but of course, that’s exactly what happened. Now, you need to move fast to replace your furnace fast, to keep your home warm and toasty during the most wonderful time of year. Of course, make sure to view website options of different furnace repair companies like Call The General before deciding you need a replacement – the issue could be fixable!

However, acting quickly should not be synonymous with acting rashly. Your furnace is a major component of your home, which means you need to be careful to select the system that suits you best — or else you’ll be rushing to replace your furnace again next winter.

Fuel Type

When most people use the word “furnace,” they are talking about a gas heater, which burns natural gas to heat the air that travels around their home. Gas furnaces are some of the most efficient central heating tools, especially because natural gas burns cleaner than coal and oil, which power most electricity plants across the United States. Plus, natural gas tends to be exceedingly affordable, making heating your home during the winter less of a budget-buster.

Still, you shouldn’t buy a gas furnace if you don’t already have a natural gas heating system in your home. In fact, you might not have a furnace at all. Many older homes use hot-water systems, which have radiators in each room to supply heat. If you live in a warmer climate, your home might have a less robust heating system, like a heat pump, which likely runs on electricity. You should do some research into what kind of fuel your heating system runs on, so you don’t waste time researching the wrong type of furnace.

Size

Size is an incredibly important factor in any heating and cooling equipment — and contrary to what you might expect, bigger isn’t always better. Obviously, a furnace that is too small for your home might not be able to keep your rooms adequately warm; on the other hand, a furnace that is too large will frequently cycle on and off, wasting fuel and energy and perhaps burning out sooner than expected.

If you know the size of your old furnace, and if you haven’t added any rooms onto your home, you can buy a system of identical size. Otherwise, it will be worth your time to bring a contractor onto your property to measure your property and calculate the necessary size of your furnace, in BTUs or tons. You shouldn’t trust a measurement given to you over the phone or by anyone who hasn’t visited your home; this calculation is complex and takes into consideration your square footage, the efficiency of doors and windows, insulation levels and more. It is best to be safe and pay more now for a truly expert opinion than waste your time and money on a unit that doesn’t suit your needs.

Features

It might be difficult for you to believe that furnaces come with different features. What, is your furnace going to have four-wheel drive and be able to run Microsoft Office? Though your furnace definitely won’t come with those kind of bells and whistles, there are differences in how furnaces are built, and choosing the right features will make your life easier.

Here are a few top features to seek out in natural gas furnaces, specifically:

· Two-stage valves. Valves control the flow of fuel, and having two-stage valves provides you more minute control over the air temperature in your home. At first, two-stage valves turn on high to provide fast heating, but the power slowly tapers to ensure rooms don’t get overheated.

· Sealed combustion. One of natural gas’s byproducts when burned is carbon monoxide, which is a colorless, odorless gas that is exceedingly toxic to humans and pets. Sealed combustion chambers ensure that no CO leaks into your home, keeping everyone safe.

· High-end filters. You should be replacing your HVAC’s air HEPA filters every few months, but you might also search for a furnace that comes with an electrostatic filter to trap even more particulates and keep your air clean.

Warranty

Finally, the last consideration you should make when buying a furnace is its warranty. If you have an older home, you should already have a home warranty in place to keep your entire HVAC system in good working order. If you don’t currently have one, you might want to check out providers in your area. Companies like First American operate in states across the country so, whether you live in Florida, Kentucky, or elsewhere, you’ll have the peace of mind that, should anything go wrong, local contractors can be called out to diagnose and address the problem. If you’d like to check for availability in your area, click for more info.  However, a new furnace should also come with a factory and/or retailer warranty covering parts and service for at least a few years, maybe more on more delicate components like heat exchangers. You might consider acquiring an extended warranty from a third-party warranty reseller, which offers lower rates for the same coverage.

You can get a furnace fast and cheap — but that doesn’t mean you can get the right furnace for your home without doing any research. Knowing what kind of furnace you want goes a long way toward ensuring you won’t have a similar catastrophe before the holidays next year, or even the year after that.

How to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Winter can be an extremely harsh season when it comes to drastic weather conditions, so it’s always beneficial to ensure your home is safe and secure, ready for the winter months. From simple exterior checks, to ensuring the boiler is on top form, you’ll thank yourself if you come across any issues that can be resolved, that would’ve become a nightmare for you once the temperature drops.

Exterior Preparations

Your homes exterior is the most important area to prepare in time for winter. From the strong weather conditions, the garden and homes exterior can become battered and untidy but preparing your garden for the winter can help to prevent too much damage. Firstly, you need to check that your fencing is intact. Broken fencing can become a huge issue during the winter, especially when winds become strong and aggressive. If you notice that you have broken parts of fencing, or there are panels missing, then you need to take a trip to your local builders’ merchants and stock up on plenty of timber to fix these problems. There are lots of different parts available for fencing, like these edge panels, fence posts and so on, so you need to work out exactly what you need before you invest in any additional parts. Once you’ve fixed your fencing, you shouldn’t have to work on it again during the winter.

Shed and Greenhouse Security

When the bad weather sets in, you never know what kind of conditions you’re going to be dealing with. The shed and greenhouse can take quite a bit of pressure from strong winds, as well as a battering from any flying debris that’s blown around the garden. As a result of the bad weather, you often find that windows can become smashed, doors can become loose and roofing materials can become damaged. Before the winter properly sets in, give your greenhouse or shed a thorough once over. Check all areas are intact, just like you would with the fencing and make note of any areas that need a little TLC. Make sure you lock your shed securely to prevent any doors from flying open, as well as storing any loose furniture items away here too.

Warm and Cosy Interiors

Many people like to avoid putting the central heating on until the temperature seriously drops, however after months of not being used, your radiators may need a little test run before the cold weather hits. In the run up to the colder weeks, use your heating sparingly to just test the waters and ensure it’s still working properly. There is nothing worse than facing the coldest day of the year with a broken boiler. It would even be worth having a technician popping over and giving your boiler a quick check, to ensure it’s going to run smoothly for the few months ahead.

Alongside the boiler checks, you should also use this time to go around the house and bleed your radiators. By bleeding radiators, you can ensure your radiators will work properly when needed. If your radiator needs bleeding, you’ll notice that the top of the radiator is cold, when the bottom is hot. All you need is a cloth and bleed key to tackle this issue and it doesn’t take long at all!
