As we continue to talk about the spring gardening season, it is important that we have the proper gardening supplies  to grow and maintain our yard and garden.  I have some beautiful Encore Azaleas growing in front my house.  They have really grown a lot since we planted them back in 2009 and are thriving, but I am in need of new mulch to keep the grass and weeds from from around them.

Scotts Florida Select Natural Eucalyptus Mulch  is great option for this.  It is natural, made from 100% plantation-grown Eucalyptus trees and is free from waste materials.  It is also considered a sustainable, renewable source, which regrows 4 times faster than Cypress. And it prevents weeds naturally while helping to conserve soil moisture.

And for those of you with an eye for design, you can check out Scotts Nature Scapes mulch.  It comes in three different colors to fit your unique tastes: Classic Black, Sierra Red, and Deep Forest Brown.

Here's a list of supplies that we used to create our flower beds.  Instructions are in this post.

-A tiller or – to till up the soil.

-Potting soil – to spread around the flower bed area.

-A post-hole digger – to dig the holes which the plants will be placed in.

-Plants – We used Azeleas because they require virtually no maintenance and are so pretty, but anything you like is fine.

-Landscaping paper and landscaping staples – These are used cover the soil and protect it while the plants take root in the ground.

-Mulch – After the landscaping paper is down, you top it with mulch.

-Border – Next you need a border to prevent runoff and keep the grass/weeds from spreading in to your flower bed.

And after your garden's had time to grow, it should look something like this:

Chicken Stuffing & Vegetable Rice Casserole and #CountryCrockStars Contest

I LOVE casseroles!  With just a few ingredients (and just a dish or two), you have got a complete meal that is quick and easy to make! Right now Country Crock is celebrating casseroles with their Country Crock Stars contest!  For this contest, they want to see YOUR casseroles!

Simply follow this link over to the Country Crock Facebook page.  Then just share a photo of your favorite casserole, and share in 100 words how you demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in the kitchen.

Twelve finalists will be featured on the Country Crock Facebook page.  Then those 12 finalists will be voted on by and the public, and the top 3 cooks will win $5000 and a trip for two to New York City!

Chicken Stuffing & Vegetable Rice

Besides the fact that casseroles are fast and easy to make, here are a few more reasons I love them!

1.  They are so versatile and really allow for you to get creative!  Just add an extra ingredient, or substitute an ingredient or two, and you’ve got a completely different recipe.

2.  They easily allow for you make a meal that has servings of vegetables, meat, dairy, and a starch.

3.  You can cook them for any size gathering.  If it’s just you and your spouse, you can cut a recipe in half or have left overs for the week.  And if you have a large family or a party to cook for, you can double your recipes.

4.  Casseroles are also great leftover meals and most can easily be stored in the freezer for you to enjoy later.

To show you how easy it is to get creative in the kitchen with casseroles, today I’m sharing a recipe that I just invented for this assignment.  I used my favorite casserole  recipe, which is Chicken Poulet, and I just added a couple of ingredients to it, namely a package of chicken flavored rice and a can of mixed vegetables.  And I used these in place of the bottom layer of my Poulet Recipe (which is usually stuffing mix).  And I also threw in some Cream of Chicken Soup, instead of the usual Cream of Mushroom that goes in my Poulet.  The result was an absolutely fabulous tasting meal, if I do say so myself!

Chicken Stuffing & Vegetable Rice Casserole

Recipe for Chicken Stuffing & Vegetable Rice Casserole

Ingredients:
1 5.6 oz package flavored rice (I used Knorr, in the chicken flavor)
2 cups water
1/2 cup and 1 tablespoon Country Crock
1 can mixed vegetables
3 cans chicken, drained
6-8 spoonfuls mayonnaise
1 box stuffing mixed
1 cup chicken broth
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1-2 cups cheddar cheese

Directions: Using 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of Country Crock, make the rice according to directions on the box.
While the rice is cooking, open three 10.5 oz cans of white meat chicken. Drain the broth off the chicken and in to a measuring cup.  Set broth aside.
Pour chicken into a small bowl.  Spoon mayonnaise into chicken and mix with a fork, mashing chucks of chicken into shreds.  The consistency should be like that of a chicken salad.  Set aside.
Once your rice is done, drain the water off your can of mixed vegetables and add vegetables to rice mixture. (You may also use frozen or fresh veggies if you prefer.)  Pour rice & vegetable mixture in to 11×13 casserole dish.  Spread chicken mixture over rice.
Open package of stuffing mix.  Add one cup of chicken broth and a 1/2 cup (or one stick) of Country Crock.  Stir till all bread crumbs are moist.  Pour into casserole dish, over the chicken layer.
Next open two cans of cream of chicken soup, and spread over stuffing layer.  Finally cover with shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.  Serve and enjoy!

*Great for a make ahead meal and leftovers set up great in your fridge!*

ZzzQuil Sleep Aid Review #ZzzQuilNight #spon

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of ZzzQuil for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I often have trouble sleeping.  For one thing, I'm a natural night owl and always have been.  Secondly once I get on the computer, I don't want to get off.  It doesn't matter if I'm working on a post, chatting with a friend, or looking up songs on Youtube, I could stay up forever!  But sometimes I HAVE to get up early in the morning, and although I find that I can go on very little sleep, I much prefer to get some sleep before a big day.  Enter ZzzQuil.

I've been seeing the commercials for ZzzQuil for a while now, and I was really happy to finally get to try it.  From Vicks (the makers of Nyquil and Dayquil), ZzzQuil is a sleep aid that is just THAT, a sleep aid.  In the past you may have taken cold medicines or pain medicines that you did not need because they contained a sleep aid.  But with ZzzQuil you get just the sleep aid, no unneccessary medications.

The medicine comes in liquid form or liquicaps, making it easy for practically anyone to take.  I tried the liquid form.  It comes in a Berry Flavor.  Basically it tastes like cherry cough syrup; at least that is what I'd compare it to.  And although I'm kind of a baby when it comes to taking medicines, the taste was okay.  I did not cringe or anything when I took it, so in my world that pretty much makes it great!  The medicine is also warming.  Upon swallowing you immediately feel it warm in your throat, which I like.

And overall, I'd say it is a pretty effective sleep aid.  Adults and children over 12 take 2 tablespoons of the liquid or 2 of the 25 mg liquicaps.  For me personally, I need to take this medicine about an hour or so before going to bed in order to give it time to kick  in, and unlike some sleep aids this one did not completely knock me out, which is on a good thing.  But at the same time, until you know how this effects you, I would just say that if you don't have time to truly get a full nights sleep, I would not take this, as it could make your groggy.. Or you could do what I do sometimes, which is to take a half dose.

Has anyone else taken ZzzQuil yet? What was your experience?

Visiting Missouri #VisitMO

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Missouri Division of Tourism for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Is everyone ready for the summer vacation season to get here?  In my neck of the woods, a good share of the people go to the beach, as the closest one is only about a six hour drive, while others may do a trip to the mountains or the casinos.  Personally I would love to travel out of the region. I’ve never been to the mid-west, but I’m always seeing commercials about visiting Missouri, especially Branson, and it looks so fun!  So let’s talk about just a few things in Missouri that I’d love to see!

Since I’ve already mentioned it, let’s start with Branson.  If I was planning a trip to Missouri, it would be great to spend a day or two in Branson. It is the live Music Show Capital of the World with more than 50 live performance theaters.  There are also three lakes surrounding Branson, a fantastic theme park, and shopping galore, and plenty of outlet malls where you can get your shopping on!

Next I’d have to devote a day to historic attractions.  As a person who LOVES history and actually majored in History and English, I would love to the the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home.  I love historic homes anyway, and plus I remember reading her books when I was a kid, and of course watching “Little House On the Prairie,” so it would be a real treat to see her house!

And also, for the the literature and history lover in me, there is the Mark Twain home and museum in Hannibal, Missouri.  As a huge fan of Mark Twain, it would be so great to see his mom and the places that were the inspiration for his great works.

And finally I would love to experience the Big City Side of Missouri in St. Louis and Kansas City.  Kansas City is Travel + Leisure’s #10 best American city for pizza.  Since pizza is one of my favorite foods, I’d love to try theirs, as well as see how Kansas City barbecue matches up against our good Southern barbecue!

Kansas City is home to the American Jazz Museum, and there’s a variety of music venues, jazz clubs and concert halls across the city.  As a music lover this would be a fantastic way to end end the trip with fun and in style!

Creative Ways to Promote Your Blog Offline

OnTimeScreen Shirts

Although I don’t consider myself a complete expert, I like to give advice on blogging any time I can.  One thing I think everyone struggles with in one way or the other is marketing their blog or business.  And truthfully, you could spend hours learning about how to effectively market yourself on Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, or through commenting on other blogs, running giveaway promotions, going to conferences…and well, the list goes on and on!  But if you don’t put those strategies that you learn in to place and be consistent about it, you will not have good long term results and success.  Luckily there is no time limit, and we can choose to adopt any of these strategies whenever we choose.

In the meantime, today I’m going to talk about an old fashioned, yet still highly effective way to bring traffic to your site and your business.  Back in the “old days” before we all had websites, businesses promoted themselves using cards, shirts, and hats.  It was effective and still is!

Although commenting on blogs and using social media is free, there is something to be said for apparel that promotes your business.  For one thing, as you wear these items out, people in your local area, who might not find your website on Google, who might not even have a profile on Twitter or Facebook, will see your blog or business name.  And then maybe they will go home and Google it or even strike up a conversation with you about it.  This is a great way for you to build a local following for your site, beyond friends and family.

You can even get friends and family to wear apparel with your blog or business name.   They will be happy to do it, because they want to help you out, and because everyone loves hats and t-shirts.  And the more people wearing items with your business name on it, the more people will see it.

And with today’s technology it has never been easier or more affordable to get these items.  You can get a screen printing of your logo on t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats, with a quick turn-around time and a low minimum order, so it is very budget friendly.
