Everyone who reads this blog should guess immediately that I have a sweet tooth! I love cakes, cookies, and I LOVE candy! Recently I was given a chance to try some candy, but this time the candy is SUGAR FREE! I’m talking about Werther’s Original Sugar Free Candy. I received this lovely gift box goodies:
In side the contents of the box was a Werther’s Original Sugar Free Candy Jar and enough candy to fill the jar twice, plus four additional bags of Werther’s Original Sugar Free Candy in the following flavors: Original, Caramel Apple, Caramel Cinnamon, and Caramel Coffee.
Now first off, I have to tell you, 9 times out of ten when I read the words: “Sugar Free” on any package, I say, “next.” And I immediately look for something else. I’m not big on sugar free products, diet products, or anything like, but in this case I was very interested in trying the product. I am always just a bit intrigued at the idea of candies that are sugar free.
And in this case I’m very happy I tried these. For one thing, they taste delicious and you cannot tell they are sugar free at all. And secondly I think any time you can actually find sugar free alternatives that taste great it is definitely not a bad thing.
As a person who loves tradition, my my favorite is probably the Original Flavor. But I’ve been seeing commercials for the Caramel Apple flavor, and since I love green apple candy, I had really been wanting to try this flavor. I found it very delicious, the perfect combination of sweet and sour, and just great.
I also really enjoyed the Caramel Coffee. Even though I’m not a a coffee drinker, I love coffee flavored desserts, and this candy reminded me a lot of the coffee cream filling I’ve and frostings I’ve had on cakes.
Now aside from the great taste, there are so many pluses about this product being sugar free. Although I’m young (holding steady right now at 30), I realize I won’t always be young. And I also realize that diabetes runs in my family and I am definitely at risk of having it one day. And although you can usually take drugs and/or shots to manage it, it is best to also try and manage it with your diet. And of course, diets are so difficult to change! In fact, in a Sugar Free Satisfaction Survey, 66% of respondents reported that avoiding sugar sweets is difficult, while 39% reported that watching their sugar intake made the overall experience less enjoyable.
I know after my dad had a heart attack in 2005, he was told to cut his sugar intake basically down to little or no sugar at all, in order to prevent another heart attack and the onset of diabetes. Since he has a sweet tooth just like me, this was majorly difficult for him. And guess what? One of his favorite candies just happens to be Werther’s Original! So I’m actually looking very forward to sharing these Sugar Free Werther’s Originals with him. I think he will be very surprised and find them really delicious!
