Cozy & Comfy with Arm & Hammer with Giveaway

Cozy and Comfy with Arm and Hammer

As you prepare for the holidays, you can keep your clothes and home clean with help from Arm & Hammer.  As an Arm & Hammer Influencer, I received a great package of products (pictured above) to help me with my fall and holiday cleaning.

I was very excited to try Arm & Hammer’s Ultra Power 4X Laundry Detergent.  Not only does it have a great scent and leave your clothes smelling and feeling fresh and clean, but it’s also super concentrated, so you don’t have to use a lot to get your clothes cleaned.

I also received some baking soda and a baking soda shaker bottle.  I was happy to get this, because I often use baking soda for cleaning in my kitchen and bathroom.  You can sprinkle a little in your sinks, and then scrub with a sponge or brush, and it will leave them clean and shiny, while also deodorizing.  And I’ve also used it to remove soap scum from the tub.

In the past, I’ve also used baking soda to remove tea stains from the kitchen counter.  I had a tea pitcher with a crack in it, and the tea leaked out and stained the counter.  None of my other cleaners would remove the stain, so I sprinkled a little baking soda on the stain and let it set for a few minutes, and then I scrubbed the stain away with a sponge.

Arm and Hammer Book

As you may know, Baking Soda actually has a ton of other uses.  Here are just a few that I found in the book Household Uses for Baking Soda:

For cleaning:

  • Sprinkle in your shoes to deodorize.  (Works great on wet sneakers!)
  • Deodorize rugs and pet bedding.  Just sprinkle a little soda. Wait a few minutes, and then vacuum.
  • Clean lawn and pool furniture.
  • Clean door and window screens.
  • Sprinkle in litter boxes to refresh and remove odors.
  • Mix a quarter cup of baking soda with 1 quart of warm water to clean coffee makers and cups.

For health & beauty:

  • Use baking soda as a foot soak!  Just add 3 tablespoons to a basin of warm water.
  • Sprinkle a quarter size amount of baking soda in your palm, along with shampoo.  The baking soda will help remove residues that styling products leave behind.
  • Dab on a little baking soda solution, to relieve razor burn.
  • To treat sunburn, add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water and apply to affected area.

Flash in the Pan: Making Restaurant-Style Pan Sauces

“This post is from Instawares restaurant supplies company, a B2B ecommerce site that specializes in commercial kitchen equipment for home and business.”

Sauce pan

One of the most skillful cooks in a good restaurant is the “saucier,” a specialist in making sauces. He – or increasingly, she – is often the highest-paid member of the kitchen staff, after the chef. The saucier’s skill makes the difference between a good dish and an outstanding dish.

Some of these sauces are prepared right in the pan after the entree is cooked. Chefs describe them as “a la minute,” a French phrase meaning they’re made to order each time. Informally they’re called pan sauces because they use the bits and juices left on the pan. Pan sauces taste impressive and they’re easy to make with a bit of practice. Here’s how to make a pan sauce with lamb chops. The same basic technique works for any other pan-seared entree.

You need to prepare a few useful ingredients in advance. The most important is some broth to provide the body of the sauce. Make lamb broth if you have the chance or use commercial beef broth. Try to find a brand with low salt. Simmer the broth until about 1/3 of it has evaporated, then freeze it in quarter-cup portions for later use. Another useful ingredient is red wine or dry sherry, simmered down to a thick and syrupy consistency. It adds a lot of flavor without diluting the sauce.

Sear the chops in the hot pan to brown and crisp the surfaces. Then reduce the heat slightly and cook the chops medium-rare. Browning is important because that’s where the sauce gets most of its flavor. Take the chops out of your skillet and set them aside to keep warm under a loose cover of aluminum foil. Pour a splash of red wine into the pan and swirl it around. Let it reduce down to about a spoonful, then add a quarter-cup of broth.

Stir the pan vigorously with a wooden spoon or a silicon spatula, scraping the bottom to lift up and dissolve the browned-on juices from your lamb chop. Bring it to a quick boil and let the sauce reduce to concentrate the flavors. Taste the sauce as is simmers. If it needs more flavor add a few drops of the concentrated wine.

The natural gelatin from the broth will thicken the sauce as it simmers. Test it periodically by dipping a spoon into it. As long as the sauce drips from the spoon it’s too thin. You’ll know it’s thickened enough when it coats the back of the spoon and slides off in a wide sheet, rather than individual drops. Finish

the sauce by dropping a half-teaspoon of cold butter into the pan and swirling or whisking it in. Butter gives the sauces added richness and an attractive sheen.

For a restaurant-style presentation spoon the sauce over your chops and drizzle a small pool of it in a semicircle around the plate.

and Cranberry Sauce:

I received these products for review.  I was most excited to get the Pacific Foods Chicken Stock, because I often use chicken stock to make soups, casseroles, and of course dressing!  Today I'm sharing one of my favorite go-to recipes, which I was able to make using the Pacific Foods Chicken Stock in place of other brands I've used in the past.

I've shared my Chicken Poulet on the blog before, but since it's one of my favorite recipes, it seemed like the perfect one to share again for this project.  It's also great because I often make this around Thanksgiving because it is basically like chicken & dressing, but it's a lot easier, and it alwas comes out perfect. Here's the recipe:

Recipe for Poulet:

Ingredients:
Stuffing Mixture:
2 pkg. stuffing mix (12 oz total)
1 stick melted butter
1 c. Pacific Foods Chicken Stock

Chicken Mixture:
2 1/2 c. cooked chicken, chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise

Other ingredients:
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cans cream of mushroom OR cream of chicken soup
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Directions: Spray 9×13 casserole dish with cooking spray. Make chicken mixture in one bowl and set aside. Mix together stuffing mix and chicken stock. Melt butter, add to the stuffing mixture, and stir until combined. All stuffing crumbs should be moist. Layer stuffing, chicken mixture and then stuffing mix again. Beat eggs and add milk. Pour over casserole (do not pack or smooth down, leave loose). Let chill in refrigerator for 2 hours or overnight. Before baking, pour cream of mushroom soup over top and bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. Take out and sprinkle cheese over top of casserole. Bake an additional 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Tech Lover’s Christmas Event

I’m currently gearing up for the holiday season and am looking forward to participating in some fun giveaway events. Healthy Food for Your Favorite Pet

Once you know what you’re looking for, choosing healthy food for your dog is easy. As a loyal and trusting friend, your dog deserves the kind of food that’s going to keep his coat shiny, his eyes bright and his tail wagging. As a loyal and trusting owner, you undoubtedly have this at the forefront of your mind every time you wander down the pet food aisle of your nearest supermarket. The pictures of bounding, bouncing happy animals, the bright colors and slogans and logos that sport phrases like “scientific formula” and “nutrition for life naturally” can be confusing. How do you really know what’s best for your pet? How can you tell what’s really healthy and what’s loaded with enough preservatives?

Between Meals: What Should Your Dog Have For Snacks?

The best snack foods are the ones without colors, flavorings, preservatives or added carbohydrates, and which are a natural source of vitamins and minerals. Knowing what food is safe for your dog is half the challenge of finding a healthy snack for your pet, but natural products like Harringtons dog food can be a convenient and healthy alternative. Many people are turning to home cooked treats for their favorite pet, and when something like Harringtons dog food isn’t available this can be a fantastic alternative provided that you know the essentials of the proper diet for your dogs and that you have the time to prepare their tasty meals.

The Essentials of a Good Diet for Your Dog

Dogs are carnivorous creatures, and a good diet should comprise around 50 percent meat and 50 percent vegetable. Good dog food comes with no added carbohydrates, wheat or soya. They need a high protein diet, and when it comes to browsing the supermarket shelves you need to ignore the smiley, happy dogs and head straight to the nutrition information. Some dry dog foods contain little or real nutritional value, particularly when they have been heavily processed, and when you can you should opt for products that have been freeze dried, as this retains nutrients. You should vary your dog’s diet, choosing different flavors as often as possible, and always pick food with beneficial additives such as vitamins, minerals and essential oils.

Arby’s New Smokehouse Brisket

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Arby’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Arby's is one of my favorite fast food places.  They have so many great sandwiches, appetizers, and other great selections.  Have you guys heard of the new Arby's Smokehouse Brisket?  It is their latest sandwich creation.  Doesn't the picture look delicious? Here is the television commercial that features the new sandwich. Check it out!

I was really excited when I first saw the commericial for this sandwich.  My guy loves brisket sandwiches, and in the past he hass gotten them at our local barbeque place, but lately they have been sub par.  So I am really excited to say that there's a new brisket expert in town, and it is Arby's! And I can not wait to go by Arby's one day and pick up one of Arby's Smokehouse Brisket.

Let me tell you about it.  The secret to delicious smoked meat is to smoke it low and slow.  Keeping this in mind, the Arby's brisket is slowly smoked for 13 hours, the way great meat should be! And even though it is slowly smoked, it is always ready when you are.

The sandwich is piled high with the slowly smoked brisket and then topped with smoked Gouda cheese, crispy onions, barbeque sauce, and mayo and then served on a bakery style bun.

Doesn't it sound delicious?  And like Arby's other sandwiches, you can get the Smoked Brisket in a combo with Arby's delicious curly fries and a drink.  Or try it perhaps with one of Arby's great appetizers, like their cheesesticks or cheddar peppers.  And you could end the meal with one of their premium desserts, like their chocolate lava cakes or one of their yummy milkshakes.

Find an Arby’s near you and go try tthe new Smokehouse Brisket sandwich!  Have you tried it already?  Leave a comment telling me how you liked it, or if you have not tried the sandwich yet, leave a comment telling me why you are excited to try it!

What do you like to each for lunch?  Whether you're usually eating a turkey sandwich you made at home or a fast food burger, you can get out of those tired routines and get excited about lunch again by going to Arby's.

I've always been a huge fan of Arby's! On a typical trip to Arby's I an going for their classic Beef 'n Cheddar sandwich (with curly fries, of course), and if you are like me, you may associate Arby's most with this sandwich and their other Roast Beef sandwich selections too, but they have actually got a lot of other great items like their Market Fresh Sandwiches, Chopped Salads, Prime Cut Chicken, desserts and more.

In fact, I just recently learned about their Grand Turkey Club Sandwich, and I must say, it sounds very delicious and tempting!  If you love gourmet sandwhiches you should definitely try it out!

The Arby's Grand Turkey Club Sandwich is more than just your average turkey club.  It is made with fresh ingredients, which include sliced, hot roast turkey, melted Swiss cheese, pepper bacon, leaf lettuce, tomato, and mayo, and they are all served up on a delicious Harvest Wheat bun.

And to make things more exciting, for a limited time, participating locations are offering the Arby's Grand Turkey Ham Club Sandwich.  This sandiwch has the same great ingredients as the turkey club but with the addtion of sliced ham!  As someone who is a huge fan of anything made with ham, I really love the sound of this!
