Learning Link Technologies – Brain Training Ecourse, Review & Giveaway

Just in time for Back to School, I have a life-changing review and giveaway to share with you. You may remember the Break Pal giveaway that I hosted back in April. Well, Phil Weaver of Break Pal, contacted me a few weeks ago about hosting another great giveaway for him. This time it is for an ecourse designed to help kids and parents overcome learning disabilities.

The course was developed by Lisa Harp, a learning disability specialist, educational therapist, and founder of the Harp Learning Institute, a leading edge learning center in Northern California.

I had the opportunity to review the course and was very pleased with my findings. Unlike special education programs that are designed to make students feel comfortable and often fail to challenge children, this program is actually designed to retrain the brain.

So what kind of students can benefit from this program? The program is designed to help students with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, autism, and children who are performing below their grade level.

The program is very easy for parents to follow. No special training or educational expertise is required. With this course you get both written and video instruction, and you even get quizzes which will help you determine when your child is ready to move on to the next module in the course.

When you follow the course at an average pace it takes about 12 months to complete. The course includes neuro-sensory brain training exercises that are done once a week and take about 15-20 minutes to complete, and there are also activities that supplement the brain training, which are to be done about 5 days a week for 20-30 minutes.

The exercises and activities are designed to help a child’s mind and body work together. And I think children will find them fun and interesting. The activities are also very easy to administer, and all the materials that you need to get your child started are included with the course.

The course is well organized and very easy to understand and navigate through. On the front page you’ll find your course introduction, a link to the Brain Training Chat Room, and links to forums on learning disorders. Below this you’ll find links to your Month One Brain Training and Month One Activities Instructions and Materials packet.

Next you’ll see links for your first 5 days (which are to be repeated for about a month). When you click on these links, a page will come up that will tell you which activities you need to do with your child on that day, and it will provide you with links to videos for all the day’s activities. (You can also access the videos for all the month one brain training exercises and activities from the front page of the course.)

The course is designed for students at all levels. In the lessons, Lisa points out that students may have a difficult time with activities at first and that it’s a good idea to start slow and then speed up as the child progresses through the program. In the videos Lisa demonstrates all the exercises and activities on a student, and she gives you tips and also points out some things that you can expect from students when they first begin the activities.

My favorite thing about the course is that it includes both videos and written instruction. This will make it very easy for parents to follow along and understand. I also love that the materials packet is included. This will save parents a lot of time and money because they won’t have to create their own activity sheets or go out and buy a lot of extra materials at the store.

This is also a great program because it takes less than an hour to complete each day’s activities, and because the activities are designed to retrain the brain. Rather than spending time doing extra homework and rather than holding students back and limiting their capabilities with a special education curriculum, this program actually focuses on the problems and it works toward reprogramming your child’s brain so that they can learn and reach their full potential.

Phil has offered 3 months of this course to one Simply Sweet Home reader. This is a $240 value!

Dining Rooms Direct Giveaway

Need new dining room furniture? Diningroomsdirect.com is an awesome online retailer that sells formal and casual dining sets, as well as bistro & pub sets and breakfast nooks. They also offer a nice selection of dining accessories, dinnerware, flatware, and linens. And you can find cookware, bakeware, and decor as well.

And they have a ton of brand names available on their site, including Broyhill, Standard Furniture, Kincaid, Stanley Furniture, Knoll, Rachael Ray, and lots more!

What I loved about the Dining Rooms Direct website was that it offers something for everyone, regardless of your personal style or budget.

I was very pleased when I got the opportunity to review and give away a product from Dining Rooms Direct. As I was browsing through the website, I found the Sorrento Collection from Signature Housewares. The Sorrento Collection includes dishes, canister sets, bowls, platters, and just about every coordinating piece that you can think of. Since I love pitchers/jugs, I selected the Sorrento Pitcher to review. The items in the Sorrento Collection come in five beautiful colors. You can select from ruby, burgundy, oregano, wheat, and ivory.

After much deliberation, I chose the Sorrento Burgundy Pitcher. The item arrived quickly and was very carefully packaged. The pitcher is made of glossy, lead-free, chip-resistant stoneware and is very durable. It is safe for use in the microwave, dishwasher, and conventional oven for warming. It has a rustic Italian appeal, and it features a raised dot and olive leaf motif that is just lovely.

I was originally attracted to this collection because of the rustic Italian, antique look, and when it arrived I immediately loved the design and detail work, as well as the color. I was impressed by the high quality of the piece and its durability and versatility.

You can put this pitcher to use, serving drinks to your guests, or it would make a lovely accent piece for your kitchen or dining room.

The Sorrento Pitcher would be a wonderful addition if you already have the Sorrento Collection in your home, but it would also go brilliantly with other dishes and decor that you may have. Despite the rustic appeal of this collection, it would complement any table setting or kitchen decor. And whether you have a traditional, country, or contemporary style, you would enjoy this piece.

Today I am offering one Simply Sweet Home reader the chance to win a Signature Housewares Sorrento Pitcher from Dining Rooms Direct. You can select a pitcher in any of their five beautiful colors: burgundy, ruby oregano, wheat, and ivory.

This giveaway is now closed.

Deadline: September 2.

Purple Trail Review and Giveaway

Today I’m going to tell you about a great website where you can make custom ecards, invitations, and annoucements. It’s called Purple Trail. Whether you want to send birthday or shower invitations to your friends, an ecard to your honey, or announce an event that’s happening on your website to your mailing list, this is the site for you!

The site is very user friendly. If you can use the paint application on your computer, you can use this site. It also differs from other card sites you might have seen, because there are no advertisements on your cards and invites.

My favorite thing about the website is the customization available for cards. When you create your cards, you can choose from one of their awesome designs and simply add your message. Or you can add your own personal touch and flair to their design. And if you prefer, you can add your own clipart or personal photos for a complete personalized look. You can even add music and sound to your card!

Another thing I personally like about the site is that when you create a card or invite, you can choose whether you want your creation to be private or public. I like this because I tend to be a private person. However, when I was reviewing the site I decided to create an invitation for the Christmas Festival I’ll be hosting on my blog in December. (Yes, I’m aware that it’s August, but I wanted to experiment!) So when I created the invitation I chose to make it public, so now not only will I be able to send it to people on a mailing list, but it also has its own unique webpage for people to view. (What a great way to invite Twitter followers and people on other networks to the event!) You can go here if you want to check out the invitation I made.

You can go to Purple Trail today and sign up for a free account, and you’ll be making your own custom cards and invites in minutes. And once you’re a member, you can even upgrade your account to a Basic, Pro, or Premium account and take advantage of a whole bunch of extra features.

Today I’m giving away a Basic Plan worth $14.95 to one Simply Sweet Home reader. The Basic Plan includes animated themes, full export of your address book, scheduled send, payment collection module, a larger maximum number of invitations per month than the free plan, and more extras!

Spotlight on Simply Sweet Home

Spotlight

Tara at Feels Like Home and Adrienne at Adrienne’s House are hosting a great event where they are helping fellow bloggers to get connected with PR professionals. In January I received my first advertising offer, and since then I’ve had the chance to work with a few companies on sponsorships and product review/giveaway opportunities. It’s been very fun and exciting for me, and I would love to get more opportunities like these in the future to grow my network and build relationships. For this event, I have to write post introducing myself and my blog to the PR professionals.

About Me
My name is Jerri. I’ve been married for two and a half years to my college sweetheart and best friend Mark. We don’t have any children yet, but we hope to start a family in the next year or so. In the meantime, we have two kitty cats that we adore. (Our parents jokingly refer to them as the “grandcats.”)

My husband was recently laid off from his job, so we’re in the process of starting a new business, which I hope to share with everyone as soon we get started. And I’m also getting ready to open a small handmade jewelry shop on Etsy in the coming weeks.

Why I Started Simply Sweet Home
I started Simply Sweet Home nearly two years ago, because I thought it would be a good creative outlet. I enjoyed reading other people’s blogs, and I thought it would be fun to be a part of the blogging community and be able to share ideas and give advice and tips to women just like myself. And I hoped that it could open the door to other opportunities.

About Simply Sweet Home
When I got married I fell in love with all the aspects of being a wife, and I wanted to create a blog that would encompass any and all topics related to home and family. Since this blog was started, I’ve always posted a Recipe of the Week, and this year I began posting it on several weekly carnivals. I also host a special feature called Sweet Thursday, which is a monthly dessert carnival where people can submit a dessert that goes along with the month’s theme. These two features seem to be the most popular among the readers and have helped me to increase my readership. Because of this fact, my blog would be great for promoting food products and kitchen items.

Other topics that people enjoy and find helpful are my posts on organizing, party planning, seasonal/holiday posts, and home decor. I love highlighting new organizing products and sharing ideas and products for seasonal decorating and parties.

Also, every few months I try to do special features and events on my blog. For example, last year I had a Christmas Festival for the entire month of December, which I plan to do again this year. I’ve also written a series of articles called “Back to College” for potential college students and parents of college students. And I recently did a series of Bridal Shower Posts.

And because I’ve worked in a small business before and am in the process of starting a new home-based business with my husband, I would like to start writing some posts, advising work at home moms. With this in mind, I would love an opportunity to review office products and any products and services that are designed to help small business owners, bloggers, and people trying to make money from home.

Contacting Me
If you’re a PR Professional, thank you for visiting and considering my blog. If you would like to work with me, please send an email to simplysweethome@hotmail.com.

Online Poster Printing Giveaway

How would you like to have a free 16×20″ Gallery or Museum Wrapped Canvas Print? Online Poster Printing is offering a free poster to me and to one Simply Sweet Home reader. (If you win, all you have to do is pick out a photo you’d like to have printed and pay the shipping costs.)

About Online Poster Printing
Online Poster Printing Specializes in printing high-quality posters using premium materials. We offer a money back guarantee on all our products, such as photo canvas prints, vinyl posters, wall stickers, and rolled or mounted poster prints.

In the email I received about the giveaway, I was told to choose a summer time/fun in the sun picture that I’d like to have a poster made of. As I’m more of an indoor person, I don’t really have any “fun in the sun pictures” other than some pictures from our canoe trip (but those aren’t exactly poster worthy photos), so I’ll share a couple of pictures that were taken last summer instead. As my husband said, “it was fun in the sun for us at least….”

When we were still living in Mobile, my mom and stepdad came down for vacation. Here’s my mom and I sitting down for a picnic lunch:

And here’s a picture that was at least taken outdoors. Two summers ago  I visited Gettysburg, PA. This is a picture of a monument dedicated to the soldiers from Alabama that tried to take the Little Round Top. I would love a poster of this to go up
 in my office:

But Millie’s Place isn’t just a shop for baked goods. It also features some lovely items that Donna sews. You’ll find handmade dresses and adorable preemie sized clothes, such as the 3-piece set pictured below. There’s also a Kitty Appliqued Bib and Kitty Doll that would make a great gift.

You’ll also find some cute items for your kitchen like vintage tablecloth napkins and vintage tablecloth grocery bag holders, and much more!
