3 Essential Self-Care Pillars

Self-care habits are not just an act. While self-care can sometimes translate to retail therapy, or taking some time from work if you need it, true self-care is the art of making sure you show up for yourself each day to the degree that you’re able.

What does this mean? Well, for some people, it can differ. For instance, knowing the hair loss causes most likely to affect you and using preventative or recuperative treatments could be a worthwhile effort for some. For others, spending some time in meditation or prayer is an important part of setting each day up, and perhaps even closing it at night.

To the extent that you can, it’s important to think of the self-care pillars that no matter what, you’ll keep up with. After all, for many, self-care is more than an approach designed to help us feel better about ourselves, but an essential element of managing a condition, our wellbeing, or our bodies as we age.

For this reason, consider the following three essential self-care pillars, and perhaps apply some of your own:

Skincare

Skincare is an essential element of self-care. This is because our skin is the largest organ of our body, and deserves to be treated with respect. Using exfoliants, moisturizers, and particular treatments you may need (perhaps to help heal a burn or scar), can be a good way to prepare you for each day, or to remove the effects of makeup or exposure to the elements at night, making sure your pillow is as clean as possible as you rest your head. Not only will this help you look better, but the health of your skin will thank you.

Mental Care

Mental health maintenance is an essential part of self-care, but because it’s often invisible to attend to, it can be easier for us to forget. Each morning, going for a walk, reading a chapter, or better yet, meditating can help us remove some of the fog that might surround us otherwise, and get us into a healthy habit of activity. For some, writing in a journal is the most cathartic morning effort. Of course, some people require extra help, and there’s absolutely no shame in asking for it either from a partner or mental health professional.

Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is important to curate, but self-care measures each and every morning and night can make a major difference here. Get your bag, pack your necessities, and attend some yoga movements in the morning before you head out to work. This can be such a fantastic investment of your time and energy, giving you a workout and helping you come to a sense of mental calm. For some, isometric exercises, taking a pet for a walk, or simply heading outside onto the balcony and breathing deeply of the fresh air may help you relax and feel your best self going forward.

With this advice, you’re certain to practice the essential self-care pillars, while also adding some flourishes of your own in the best possible way.
