Dairy Makes Sense Giveaway Featuring Cuisinart

Did you know that March was National Nutrition Month?  The Midwest Dairy Council has a few facts to share without about the nutritional value of milk.  As you know, milk and other dairy products are good sources of vitamins and minerals. We’ve all heard that milk “does a body good,” but research shows that many people don’t fully understand the whole story of the nutritional value found in dairy! It goes beyond just calcium for strong bones – each serving of dairy provides 8 other essential nutrients, including:
· Vitamin D: Vitamin D (“The Sunshine Vitamin”) promotes calcium absorption and helps strengthen bones. Milk is one of the few dietary sources of vitamin D and just one 8 ounce glass provides 25% of your recommended daily value.
· Protein: Protein builds and repairs muscle tissue while giving you a boost of energy! The protein in milk, cheese and yogurt builds and repairs muscle tissue and can help you feel full.
· Potassium: Did you know that milk and yogurt contain as much potassium as a banana? Potassium regulates the body’s fluid balance and helps maintain normal blood pressure.
· Vitamin B12: Milk and yogurt are also excellent sources of B12, which helps maintain healthy red blood cells and nerve tissue.
Three daily servings of dairy (including low-fat/fat-free milk, cheese or yogurt) deliver exceptional nutrition (for an awesome value) and can contribute to your family’s plan for a healthy diet and lifestyle.
For information, please visit the newly updated Dairy Makes Sense. There, you’ll find more information on dairy’s nutritional benefits and links to several recipes you’ll enjoy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (located here: http://bit.ly/aBnlVk)!

To promote the importance of dairy products and help you to incorporporate dairy into your life, we have a fantastic giveaway.  The Midwest Dairy Association is giving one lucky Simply Sweet Home reader a special Dairy Makes Sense prize pack.  The prize pack includes

ecoStore USA Review/Giveaway

I actually haven’t tried a lot of organic products, but the organic lines that appeal to me most are the cleaning and healthcare product lines, so I was very excited when I got the chance to try some products from ecoStore USA.  Ecostore NZ was founded more than 15 years ago in New Zealand.  Their products are plant based and contain “No Nasty Chemicals” (that is, no synthetic petrochemicals, dyes, perfumes, etc.).
Their health & beauty aid product line includes soaps, shampoos, and conditioners for babies, adults, and even pets.  And their Household line includes laundry detergents, dish cleaners, toilet cleaners, and other household cleaning products.
The folks at ecoStore USA let me pick out 2 products for this review.  I chose their Natural Antibacterial Spray Cleaner and their Plant Based Auto Dishwash Powder, and I was pleased with the performance of both products.
I always like to use natural spray cleaners because I have 2 curious cats that I have to look out for.  What I loved most about the antibacterial spray cleaner is that it’s citrus based.  I use my spray cleaners a few times a week to clean the kitchen and the bathrooms, and the thing I don’t like about traditional cleaners is that it is very irritating to the senses.  I simply cannot tolerate breathing in the smell of those chemicals for a more than a few minutes at a time, and if you’ve ever known anyone with allergies, asthma, or lung disease, you know that the use of certain chemicals can cause complications and make cleaning unbearable for some people.  So I was very happy that this company offered a natural citrus spray cleaner that is unharmful and leaves your home smelling fresh and clean.
I also tried the Auto Dishwash Powder.  I wasn’t sure how I’d like this product because I usually use gel or liquid detergent in my dishwasher, and I’ve tried powders in the past that didn’t do a good job.  But I decided to give this powder a shot and I was impressed with the results I got.  Upon opening the detergent bottle, the first thing I noticed was the scent.  It was a very clean and pleasant scent.  And I also liked that this was a super concentrated product, which meant that you didn’t have to use a lot of the product at a time.  In fact, the instructions tell you to use only a tablespoon of the powder at a time. Wow!  I don’t know about you, but I use more than a tablespoon of the liquid cleaners, and I certainly have used a lot more than a tablespoon of the traditional dish powers.  And I was excited when I opened the dishwasher and found everything shiny and clean!
I would definitely recommend the antibacterial spray cleaner and the auto dish powder to you.  Not only are they safe and free of harmful chemicals, but they are very effective cleaners.  And if the other products at Ecostore USA are as good as these, you are sure to love this company.

BassWoodStitchery

I’m excited to share my newest sponsor with you!  BassWoodStitchery is owned and operated by Susie who produces home sewn and hand knit clothing, housewares and quilts from the woods of northern Minnesota.
Here’s what Susie had to say about herself and her shop, “I love to make things. I have a variety of items in my shop and hope to be adding more, especially my quilts.  If someone was to ask me what my favorite color is, I’d have to say most all of them!  There is such a satisfaction in creating something and seeing the results when it’s done,or the smile on someone’s face when they first see it. I would call it the best therapy there is!”
It’s clear that Susie has a real love for her sewing and quilting. Her use of rich colors and the intricate details in her work are a sign of true craftsmanship, fine design, and high quality. I was very impressed with all the items available at BassWoodStitchery.  Her items are just fabulous!  And the colors are so unique!  I’m especially in love with her all her baby booties, ponchos, and snuggle buddies!
Susie’s also done an excellent job of making houseware products beautiful.  Take a look at the dish cloth set above.  Aren’t these adorable?  I would love a set of these for my kitchen!  How about you?
She even has a line of EcoFriendly Cotton Swiffer Covers.  I love my swiffer, but the disposable covers are ridiculously expensive! So I was very pleased to see these reuseable crocheted Swiffer covers. What an excellent product idea! And here again, she has some lovely colors available!
Please stop by BassWoodStitchery and take a look at all of Susie’s handmade items!

Survival Seed Review/Giveaway – Grow Your Garden!

Do you have an emergency food supply? Is your family prepared for a food shortage? In the event of a natural disaster, terrorist attack, and other catostophic events, it’s good to have the ease of mind in knowing that your family has plenty of food to eat.

Unfortunately most of us only stock enough food to sustain ourselves for a few weeks. For many of us, this is due to a lack of funds. If you live paycheck to paycheck, as many of us do, you buy what you can, which is generally a week or two weeks worth of groceries. But it’s also due to a sense or (as some would say) a false sense of security. As I stated in my previous post, we have the luxery of being able to go to the store anytime we want: today, tomorrow, next week, etc. And most us of never consider what it would be like if we did not have this opportunity. Most people have no idea what they would do in the event of a major disaster or even what they would do in the event of a personal emergency (job loss, accident, etc.)

One answer is to grow your own garden. Although maintaining a garden can be hardwork, it gives you the opportunity to be self reliant and continuously create a new food supply year after year. It also saves you a lot of money. Growing a garden is also a great project that you can work on with you family, and it can help you to teach your children about responsibility, self-reliance, and the value of hard work.

Today I’m giving away a survival seed pack from Hometown Seeds. The seed pack consists of Non-Hybrid Survival Seeds. This means that they are not genetically modified and they will produce true to variety seeds to replant for future harvests. The seeds have a 5 year shelf life (10 years, if frozen). And the package includes nearly a pound and a half of seed—enough seeds to plant 3/4 of an acre. Also, the seed pack sales for $35 and will yield about $600 worth of food a year!
The package also comes with a fabulous instruction booklet. This tells you everything you need to know to start growing your garden: when to plant, where to plant, crop spacings, germination periods, soil modification, etc.

Your Survival Seed Pack will include 16 varieties of seeds:

-Lincoln Peas (5 oz.)
-Detroit Dark Red Beets (10 grams)
-Kentucky wonder Brown Pole Bean (5 oz.)
-Champion Radish (10 grams)
-Lucullus Swiss Chard (10 grams)
-Black Beauty Zucchini (10 grams)
-Bloomsdale Longstanding Spinach (10 grams)
-Scarlet Nantes Carrots (10 grams)
-Long Green Improved Cucumber (10 grams)
-Golden Acre Cabbage (10 grams)
-Romaine Paris Island Cos Lettuce (5 grams)
-Golden Banterm Sweet Corn (5 oz.)
-Yolo Wonder Pepper (5 grams)
-Waltham Butternut Winter Squash (10 grams)
-Rutgers Tomato (5 grams)
-Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion (10 grams)

Win it! If you’d like to win your own survival seed pack (a $35 value) go to Hometown Seeds and tell us your favorite product OR tell me what crop you’d most like to have in your garden. Deadline: April 5
