Dreaming of a New Living Room

Every year my husband asks me to make a Christmas list for myself so that he’ll know what to get me.  (Isn’t he sweet?)
Each year I put a few small items on the list like books and cds, and then I put a few big items, which I may or may not be able to get.  This year one thing my husband and I would both like to have is new living room furniture.

A couple of months ago we got a new entertainment center, and we were amazed at just how great it looked!  So now the next thing on our list is a new couch and love seat or recliner, and then perhaps a sisal rug.

I want something neutral in color, and it has to be comfortable. Here’s a few that I have in mind:
I think this one looks very nice and classic.  And tt looks very soft and comfortable.  I also love this amber color, not too light but not too dark either.  And our living room walls are the same color as the ones in the picture, and our hardwood is similar in color as well, so I could easily see this set in our living room. (I also love that rug!)
This has a nice and simple style that I like.  It’s a little lighter in color than I would probably buy, as our living room is…well, lived in.  But I would love something like this in a different color.
Here’s another set that’s pretty simple in style.  The color is called pewter.  I like it because it’s a little different than the traditional browns and tans, but it’s still neutral.  And though it’s pictured with a contemporary rug and lamps, I think it would still go with my country style of decor.   It also looks comfortable, and I like the matching throw pillows.
And this one is walnut in color.  Again, I like the matching throw pillows, and I like the simple style.  It also looks fairly comfortable, but I not sure what I think of the “sleigh” style arms.
So what do you guys think of these selections.  I’d love to hear your ideas!

Easy Ideas for a Festive Thanksgiving

It’s not too late to think about adding a little fall flair to your Thanksgiving table.  Here some easy and inexpensive, last minute ideas.

Add color and style to your table using a table runner or place mats in red or orange.  Then use faux leaves and berries to create an inviting tablescape.

Create the perfect fall buffet by placing your food trays on top of pumpkins!  Or mix in some smaller pumpkins and gourds in and around your buffet.

Here’s a display that’s easy and very inexpensive. Take bottles or jars, and place the letters “T-H-A-N-K-S” on them.  (You could even recycle some mayonnaise or jelly jars and just shake up a little pain inside to add color.) Then place straw, fall flowers, leaves, corn husks, or anything else you can think of in each one.

The easiest thing you can do to add color and flair to any table is to add a bouquet of flowers.  Faux will do, but fresh is said to be the way to go if you really want to breathe life into your room.  And the best part is that the local grocer’s and farmer’s markets will have any leftover fall inventory on sale the week of Thanksgiving!
And you can always count on candles to add color and a hint of warmth of and coziness to any room.

And how about adding something fun for this kids?  It just takes a few simple ingredients to make this cute turkey that also doubles as a holder for appetizer kabobs!

Beautiful Bedding and Accessories

With the summer time coming to an end and the fall season rapidly approaching, it’s the perfect time to do a little redecorating.  As some of you know, I recently did a little makeover in our bedroom, adding a new bedspread and curtains.  It’s amazing how much difference the simplest change like this can make.

Today I’m sharing some bedding and accessories from K and Co.  This site actually has a number of departments, offering everything from stylish clothing and athletic apparel to electronics, home & garden items, and even health & beauty aids.

I was really impressed by their selection of bedding.  They have a number of beautiful styles to fit your home, from classic to contemporary, from shabby chic to luxurious.
Apart from their beautiful throws, duvet covers and sheet sets, they also carry mattress toppers and protectors, as well as electric blankets and pillowcases.

And they also have some beautiful accessories to help you create your perfect bedroom, including some lovely coordinating throw pillows and matching curtains.  These can really add style, flair and even a little more coziness to your room.

New Bedroom Curtains and Curtain Tips

I recently shared our little bedroom makeover. Part of the makeover included these curtains, but these aren’t just  ordinary curtains. These are blackout curtains, and at just $10 each at Wal-mart, my husband is now calling them, “one of the best purchases I’ve ever made!”

If you’ve never heard of blackout curtains, here are a few of the benefits:
  • It makes your room super dark! (Perfect if you’re sleeping late, if you have a night shift worker or a  daytime napper in your house.)
  • It helps reduce noises coming from the outside.
  • And it can also help keep your room cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Now here’s a great tip that I came up with!  Someone in my house (I’m not going to say any names. Let’s just say it’s a male.) always has to have the ceiling fan on while sleeping. I’ve gotten kind of used to it by now, but the fan made the new curtains blow back and forth, which is highly annoying and defeats the purpose of having blackout curtains.
To hold the curtains in place, I used Command Picture Hanging Strips.  These things are awesome!  I placed two or three on each side of the curtains, attaching them to the window frame.  This was done is less than 5 minutes. The strips are easily removable.  And the best part is this has worked perfectly to keep the curtains in place and closed!

Bedroom Makeover

I recently did a slight revamp in our bedroom….nothing fancy, just a new bedspread and curtains.  I love the bedspread that we had, but we’ve been using for a while, and I thought the room could use a splash of color.

Here’s a before picture:

And here’s the after:

And here’s a closeup of the bedspread: green with red/pink and white/tan flowers.

What do you think?

Big Spring Flower Wreath

I love the colors of spring!  This spring I’m welcoming people in to my home with the colors of this wreath on my front door! Isn’t it pretty?
And before I go further, you’re right the door in the picture actually isn’t the front door. Actually I put it up this up in the living room last month, but I moved it to the front door a couple of weeks ago for the Easter and Mother’s Day holidays.  But I think, this time next month, I’m going to put it back up in the living room, as it goes with some other rose themed decor that I have.
There’s no tutorial today because I didn’t make this, although I wish I had!
But I do have a tip!  They have a lot of wreaths at Walmart that are similar to this.  You can find them in the craft section with the flowers  They start as low as $20 (perhaps even cheaper for something smaller), and then they go up in price from there.  That’s just about the best price you can find for something new. And for a wreath of this size and fullness, you can’t really beat it!
Even if you made your own, you’d spend about that much in materials for a wreath of this size  The only catch is that the back of it is a plastic frame as opposed to a metal frame, but you can’t see the frame anyway, so it’s pefectly good to me!
