Holiday Party Time

Do you ever struggle to find unique recipes and foods for your holiday party?  Personally I love eating anything and everything around the holiday season, from mouthwatering, savory apps to turkey & dressing, but it can be quite easy to get tired of the “same ole menu” year after year.  Personally I love appetizers for our football parties and of course, New Year’s Eve, and although I have a lot of different teams I can make, every now and then I have to break out of the rut and try something new.  Today I’m sharing a fun idea that you can incorporate in to your holiday party, namely your appetizer parties, although the concept can easily be applied to a sit-down dinner party.  Last weekend I made an “Around the World Appetizer Buffet”  featuring appetizers inspired by other countries.  My buffet featured American, Italian, and Asian cusine. My Favorite Healthy Snacks from Fiber One

Fiber One Bars

After all the Halloween candy and treats, you may be longing for something healthy to add to your diet. (Or maybe you’re already ready thinking about all the holiday eating ahead); either way you can indulge in a sweet treat and still remain guilt free with Fiber One Products.

I love, love, LOVE Fiber One.  I’ve been eating their brownies for a long time, and earlier this year I tried out their Lemon Bars, which are just amazing!  What I love about the treats is that they are a low calorie food, and they are a great source of fiber, and yet, they still taste very delicious.  (And believe me, I’m picky when it comes to flavor!)

Any time I shop in the aisle that has the Fiber One bars and snacks, I’m always seeing other products to try, and last month I finally tried a few.  The three items I tried were the Chocolate Chip Cookies, Streusel Bars, and Meal Bars.  And I loved them all!

Fiber One Cookies

Because I’m such a fan of the brownies, I’ve wanted to try the cookie for a while.  As you’d expect, it’s not quite as sweet as your typical chocolate chip cookie, I think they make a very delicious, and a pretty filling snack. (Each cookie also contains 20% of your daily value of fiber!)

The streusel bars were also a big hit with me.  These were strawberry flavored with oats and brown sugar, and they are very delicious, almost like something you’d get from a pastry shop, and yet they have 20% of your daily value of fiber, are just 150 calories per bar and have 12 grams of whole grain.

And finally we have the Meal Bars.  I was very surprised at how much I liked these  These come in a few flavors, but I got the Dark Chocolate Almond.  Unlike the other Fiber One Products, they bars are bigger (about twice the size or more of the other products) and since they are a Meal Bar, I suppose they should be.  I found them to be quite yummy and very filling.  And the bars have 10 grams of protein, plus 9 grams of fiber.

Look for Fiber One Snack Bars at your local Target store.  They are located in the healthy snack aisle.

Success Rice

Rice is one of my favorite kitchen staples!  I love serving it as a side, and I especially love to use it in casseroles!  But with some rice products you have to be careful, or your rice won’t be good and done.  But Success® Boil-in-Bag Rice makes it easy to cook up perfect rice!

The product comes in White and and Whole Grain Brown Rice varieties, and you can find it in 14 oz and 32 oz package.  And because Success® Rice is precooked,  your cook time is just 10 minutes from bag to bowl!  From there, you can add any number of ingredients to create your favorite recipe! Game Time with Tyson Deli Wings

When it comes time for game day, we always have a lot of “man food” on hand.  I love putting out a spread of appetizers on the counter just before the start of the first game of the day, and then going back later at dinner time.  It generally makes for an easy day as far as cooking, and it allows me to watch the games with my hubby without having to spend all day in the kitchen.  Hot Wings are definitely on my top 5 list of game day buffet items!  But if you want to keep it easy, you usually have to order out, which can get expensive, or you have to buy a frozen product, which just doesn’t compare with something fresh.

OR… You can stop by the Walmart Deli!  The Walmart Deli serves up a variety of bone-in and boneless wings for your football party! [Read more…]

Today, I am sharing a delicious and easy recipe for salsa fresca, just in time for all the delicious veggies from your garden or the local farmers market! This delicious, fresh salsa is perfect with chips or as a topper for anything – chicken, steak, or fish. It is also delicious as a replacement for salad dressing on your next salad!
