With Christmas and holiday parties right around the corner, it’s time to stock up on drinks! This year Coca-Cola has added even more fun to the festivities with their special holiday inspired Share a Coke bottles! These 8.5 inch aluminum bottles are the perfect size for parties. They also have little Coca-Cola Christmas balls on them, and they feature cute message like, “Share a Coke with Santa.” How fun! With cute bottles like this, who needs fancy glassware?
Coca-Cola is also helping us celebrate the season with a #SipsofJoy Twitter Party on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 1:00 pm EST. RSVP here.
I got my Coca-Cola products through a special Cartwheel offer at Target. Just visit this Share a Coke page and enter the Twitter id of a friend or family member. When you do, they will get a 20% off Coca-Cola Cartwheel offer, and YOU will get a 20% off Cartwheel offer!
You can find Coca-Cola in aluminum bottles with special holiday messaging at Target. Check out the cooler near the check out stands!
I already mentioned how festive these bottles are for your holiday parties, and how they are way more fun than traditional glassware, but apart from that, they are also fun to craft with!
At our house we do a lot of recycling. We drink a lot of Coca-Cola products at our house, so we have a special recycle can in our kitchen that is just for aluminum cans. And I also like for us to upcycle and repurpose old stuff whenever we can. Since I’ve always thought of Coca-Cola as being the drink of the season, I thought it would be fun to make a few DIY Christmas Ornaments out of these bottles. So today I’ll be sharing a couple of ideas that we came up with.
The first ornament is a VERY easy project. This literally takes about 5 minutes to do, and it can be done with just a few materials you probably already have at home. I call the ornament a “Coke Bubbly Ribbon Ornament.”
And just in case you can’t tell, the ribbon is supposed to be the “bubbly” running out the top of the bottle.
Here are some basic instructions on how to make this ornament.
- Start by drilling a hole near the top of your bottle. This will be for the hanger. (Don’t forget to wear safety glasses when drilling your hole.)
- Next prepare some ribbon. You can get a few pieces of ribbon and use the scissors to tease them up in to curly cues. Or you may purchase a “Spritz” at Target (shown in the upper right). You will find these with gift wrap supplies. I used half a Spritz for each ornament. Simply cut the Spritz in half. Then roll a little tape around the end, just to make sure all the ribbons stay in tact.
- Next get out the hot glue gun and attach your ribbons to the bottle. Let this set for a minute or two.
- Next cut a piece of ribbon for a hanger. You’ll need about 8 to inches. Pull both ends of the ribbon through the hole that you drilled, as shown above. Then tie a knot. Make sure the knot is big enough so that it does not go through the hole your drilled. If it’s too small, you’ll need to use a thicker ribbon, or secure the ribbon with hot glue. Cut off any excess ribbon on the other side of the knot, or tuck it into the bottle, and you are ready to hang!
Voila! A fun and cute ornament in minutes!
Next we have a Light Up Coke Bottle Christmas Ornament. This one is a little more elaborate. You’ll need a few more tools and supplies, and you will need some safety glasses, and perhaps some gloves for this one!
And here’s how you make the light up ornament:
- First you need to cut off part of the back of the coke bottle. For this, we used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel. If you have a small handheld saw or other cutting tool, that would work as well.
- Take a drill and drill 20 holes in the bottle. You can drill the holes randomly or in a pattern. It’s up to you.
- Insert the lights through the back hole that you cut, and as you insert the light strand, poke the light bulbs out through the holes you have drilled. (Be careful not to cut yourself on the bottle; this is why you may need gloves.)
- Add ribbon. (optional) If you choose to add ribbon, you may hot glue it to the bottle, or you may secure it by simply wrapping it around the lights and tucking it in to the back.
- To hang the ornament, you can just lean it against the tree (as it will be otherwise hung via the light strand). Or you may drill an additional hole near the top and add a loop of ribbon for hanging.
- Place on tree, near the end of the a light strand so that you may connect it.
And voila again! You have a fun and festive Coca Cola bottle Christmas ornament that actually lights up! How fun is that?
