Did you make any fitness or weight loss goals for this year? I’ve always been a thin person, but I don’t always keep healthy habits, so I’m trying to make improvements in my overall diet, health, and fitness this year. For me, exercising is the most challenging. I have to stick with activities that aren’t too time consuming, are fairly easy, and are actually fun. Some activities I’ve enjoyed for exercise include aerobics/dance, disc golf, and walking/jogging. Of course, there are two things which can make these and other physical activities more enjoyable: a companion and music! Today I’m going to show you a great new way of fusing fitness with technology for a smarter workout!
I recently got a pair of Intel SMS Audio BioSport Earbuds. They are available now on Amazon.com:
They are $149.95 with free shipping, and you can choose grey, yellow, or blue.
The headphones feature amazing sound quality and noise cancellation so that you can listen to your favorite tunes without interruption during your workout (or while sitting at your desk and working on the blog!). They also also come with 3 sets of ear in gels in 3 sizes so that they can fit snug inside your ears.
It’s also a durable and overall high quality product. It is sweat and water resistant (with an IPX4 Rating), making it perfect for your workout. I also like the cords it is made of, as they are bigger and much more durable than your average earbuds out on the market. (I cannot even tell you how man earbuds and charger cords we’ve thrown away because they broke or got dog chewed). And as if the durability wasn’t enough, they come with a great case!
But that’s not all all. The earbuds also have a built-in microphone, allowing your phone, if you receive a call during your workout.
And for the work out enthusiast, there is heart rate monitor!
The headphones are compatible with most fitness apps you will find on your smartphone. I downloaded the RunKeeper app for free. It helps you to time and map out your work outs, as well as measure calories burned, and of course, measure your heart rate! (The headphones also come with a code, which will give you a free month of RunKeeper Elite.)
Now there are already a lot of heart monitor’s out on the market and even some headphones that measure heart rate. What sets the SMS Audio BioSport Headphones apart from other competing products or a combination of productions, is that this is one piece. You don’t have to strap things here and there. The headphones work very simply: Just place the earbud with the heart monitor in your right ear. Make sure the heart monitor is on, and then connect to RunKeeper or other fitness apps!
And to make things even more easy and convenient, the product requires no batteries or charging. BioSport includes technology that enables the 3.5mm gold-plated audio jack to power the headphones and biometric monitoring capabilities, so users have the freedom of on-the-go power.
The headphones are very easy to use. Simply connect to your mobile device to play your music (earbud with the heart rate monitor on it should be placed in your right ear).
To use the heart rate monitor, you’ll need to download a fitness app, such as RunKeeper. Within the RunKeeper app, you will need to go to Settings.
Then select “Manage Connections: Apps, Services, and Devices.“
On the next screen, select “Manage Devices: Devices & Hardware.“
Finally select, “Analog Headphones.” (Make sure your earbuds are plugged in and heart rate monitor is turned on.)
This will connect your earbuds to the app, and then you are already to work out! Your heart rate will appear on the app screen. The RunKeeper app, in particular, can give you your current heart rate and your average heart rate. You can also touch the screen to have the reading spoken aloud.
I put together a short video featuring the earbuds and this tutorial with screenshots. Check it out here:
So what do you LOVE about these headphones? Is there anything special you do for your workouts or any tips you have for the rest of us to stay fit?
Oh, I agree! I get bored so easily… music helps to keep me motivated and on track. Best of luck with your Resolutions this year. I think 2015 is going to be great! #client
These look great- I’ll keep them in mind for the hubby. I actually take Taekwando classes which rules out personal music. They’re great though in that they keep me accountable. It’s obvious if you don’t go to class since it’s small, personal, and the next belt is dependent on attendance.
I could use these when I exercise! The heart rate monitor is a huge plus!
I absolutely have to have music when I work out. These look really great, I’m going to tel my friend about them, She needs new ones.
